The Tlicho Community Services Agency is looking for a positive and committed education leader capable and willing to embrace the implementation of four key priorities/initiatives in the Tlicho schools and classrooms: literacy/reading; health, wellness & student support; culture-based education; and the development of 21st century learners / critical thinkers.


Requirements for the position:

Preferred Master's Degree in Education (preferred Educational Leadership, Curriculum, Inclusive Schooling, Indigenous Education); Bachelor's Degree in Education; 5-10 years teaching experience; 1-3 years' experience as a Principal or Education Lead (equivalencies in management and school/regional leadership roles may be considered); Educational Leadership Program (GNWT) or equivalent (all candidates will be required to compete the ELP program as a condition of hire); and Experience in Northern Indigenous Communities is preferred.

Teaching Principal - Jean Wetrade Gameti School (JWGS)

Term position for the 2025-2026 School Year (possibility to extend). A teaching Principal is required for Jean Wetrade Gameti School. JWGS is a school of approximately 65 students JK-12 with approximately 20 employees. The Principal will lead the numerous school teams including: School-based team, Safe and Caring Schools, OHS, Department Heads, Indigenizing Education Team, and Professional Learning Communities. The candidate will be a leader in the design and delivery of a transformational education program that includes strong direction in key areas such as literacy, numeracy, Indigenized education, and Inclusive schooling. The successful applicant will be expected to manage resources to ensure accurate student, administrative and fiscal records are kept in accordance with territorial and regional standards, oversee the registration and maintenance of student records, ensure consistency and accountability for all staff and students, direct instruction that follows the legislation, regulations, policies, and directives of the NWT and TCSA, and establish school improvement plans with evidence supporting target achievement. Principals are key leaders in establishing a positive school culture that supports a shared vision, shared accountability, and collective efficacy, that promote a climate and culture that promotes students' learning. Preference will be given to those with successful implementation experience of the PLC at Work(TM) model. TCSA schools use the PLC model to drive continuous improvement through collective capacity to use student achievement data to drive instructional and administrative decision making. Preference will be given to proficient educators with demonstrated leadership experiences in cross-cultural learning environments, who have excellent initiative, planning, organization, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills. They will be known for a very high standard of professionalism and will be a strong team player committed to working well with and earning the respect of their colleagues and supervisors. Flexibility, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and a willingness to become an advocate for the Tlicho way of life outside of the school are a must which includes participating in community leadership and stakeholder partnerships. * The TCSA embraces a philosophy of continuing professional learning and growth specifically tied to high levels of student learning. Candidates must be prepared to engage in ongoing collaborative and professional dialogue about their instructional, assessment, and reporting practice insofar as it relates to student learning.
