The Early Childhood Educator (Teacher on Call) is responsible for providing quality, inclusive child care services for young children in a group setting under the guidance of the Director of Operations. The ECE (On Call) supports classroom teachers as needed, ensuring smooth daily routines and a safe, nurturing learning environment. The position includes:
Teacher on Call (TOC)
availability Monday to Friday to provide classroom coverage when needed.
Friday Educator
support in the classroom or Nature School program.
Specific Accountabilities
The Early Childhood Educator (On Call) is accountable for the following:
Support daily classroom activities and routines as directed by the lead teacher.
? Provide a balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group experiences as outlined by the program plan.
? Follow the daily schedule and assist with transitions between activities.
? Set up and tidy classroom materials, ensuring the space is clean, safe, and organized.
? Engage with children in a positive, responsive, and caring manner.
? Use a variety of techniques such as modeling, observing, questioning, and reinforcing to support learning.
? Encourage and assist children with daily self-help skills and independence.
? Support activities that foster inclusion, cooperation, and respect among children.
? Promote positive social interactions and problem-solving through guided play.
Ensure guidance of children's behaviour that encourages positive self-concept.
? Follow the centre's philosophy and guidance policies when addressing behaviour.
? Use positive language, redirection, and reinforcement strategies.
? Address challenging behaviour calmly and respectfully without labelling a child.
? Support classroom management under the direction of the lead teacher or Director of Operations.
Ensure the child care environment is healthy and safe for all children.
? Follow licensing requirements and centre procedures for health and safety.
? Monitor the environment for hazards and report any issues immediately.
? Assist with supervision during meals, rest time, and outdoor play.
? Follow all procedures for illness, injury, medication, and first aid as required.
? Update self on children's allergies, special conditions, or other relevant information.
? Release children only to authorized persons in accordance with centre policies.
Ensure positive communication and teamwork.
? Communicate effectively and professionally with staff and families.
? Support the classroom team by maintaining consistency and reliability in following routines.
? Collaborate with the Director of Operations and team members to ensure continuity of care and smooth classroom operation.
Contribute to the ongoing operation of the centre.
? Follow all licensing requirements and centre policies.
? Maintain punctuality and reliability when called in to work.
? Attend staff meetings or training sessions when required.
? Maintain confidentiality regarding all information related to children, families, and staff.
? Participate in professional development as authorized by the Director of Operations.
? Other duties as required.
Qualifications and Competencies
The Early Childhood Educator (On Call) will possess the following:
? Diplomas, certificates, or other evidence of training related to child growth/development
? Early Childhood Educator License to Practice - ECE or ECEA acceptable
? Experience working with children in a licensed child care setting (2-3 years)
? Strong communication and interpersonal skills
? Friendly, approachable, and reliable team player
? Ability to adapt quickly and support various classroom settings
? Current First Aid and CPR certificate
? Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Search
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
