Job Description

We are looking to fill a permanent full-time leadership role for an individual who is passionate about helping clients navigate the complexities of taxation showing commitment to building on our legacy of delighting our customers through the right blend of rolling up their sleeves along with developing others.

We are an independent and intimate tax office with a diverse customer base serving Central Alberta. We have shown continued growth through the delivery of exceptional customer service over 20+ years of operations.

The workload; heavier demand peaking February through April, necessitates on site work however, as the workload flattens May through January, we embrace a hybrid environment promoting remote work along with a healthy dose of employee wellness and professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

Be a mentor / coach to one or more employees, which will include providing honest and timely feedback*
Train and develop staff members*
Participate in recruitment of junior level staff*
Some travel may be required - less than 5%*
Prioritize multiple tax filings requirements and effectively working with the business lines to establish the timely receipt of relevant information needed for all tax filings.*
Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of Canadian returns and the accurate, timely filing of all returns to the tax authority and the taxpayers.*
Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.*
Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in Company tax procedures.*
Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.*
Monitor tax files monthly, review the data integrity and ensure applicable rates, formulas and tax factors have been applied to all income, interest and unit trust distribution events.*

Qualifications & Requirements:

Tax Expertise - Demonstrates a fundamental understanding of tax laws and concepts. Proven ability to seek out additional learning opportunities to increase knowledge and learn about year-over-year changes.*
Effective Communication - Uses written and verbal communication skills to provide quality service when speaking with customers.*
Practices active listening to develop empathy and understand customer pain points.*
Complex Problem Solving - Demonstrates commitment to understanding customer problems, leveraging tools and resources to take extreme ownership and solve or escalate as appropriate for additional support in a timely manner.*

Technical Acumen - Shows interest in learning about the tools needed for the role and demonstrates basic ability to troubleshoot issues.*

Education:

Personal and Corporate Tax Program Certificates / Diplomas*
Completion of, or working towards a bachelor's degree*

Experience:

3 - 5 years of corporate tax preparation and filing Experience working in the financial services industry. Strong experience with a variety of tax operations Ability to drive process improvements. Lead roles providing guidance and mentoring of junior staff Analyzing client financial statements Communicating with Clients on potential sensitive topics Exposure to Bookkeeping best practices Software ProFile Tax Suite QB ProTax Sage (Online & Desktop) QB (Online & Desktop) Personal and Corporate Tax Program Certificates / Diplomas

Compensation & Benefits:

Pay: $110,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
