Responsibilities

  • Preparation and filing of Canadian federal and provincial tax returns including income and excise taxes
  • Preparation of tax-related reporting, including financial statement notes and MD&A inputs for monthly/quarterly/year-end internal and external reporting
  • Review of state sales and use tax submissions
  • Liaise with external tax advisors and provide supporting documentation for US federal returns
  • Provide supporting documentation and analysis to external auditors
  • Responsible for the research and resolution of tax changes including the evaluation and implementation of new legislative policies and accounting standards to ensure Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) compliance with supporting memo documentation
  • Review the work of junior staff for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide ongoing support and mentoring of junior staff
  • Participate in corporate tax planning and structuring
  • Assist with transfer pricing policies and documentation
  • Interact with Canadian and US tax authorities on tax audits and appeals
  • Ensure adherence to finance process and controls, with an emphasis on continuous process improvements and gaining efficiencies through automation
  • Ad hoc financial analysis and other duties as required by direct reporting manager
Qualifications/ Education/ Skills
  • Minimum of 5+ years experience specializing in corporate tax
  • Professional Accounting Designation
  • Completed, or nearly completed the CPA In-Depth Tax Course or Masters Degree in Tax
  • Experience in construction/manufacturing an asset but not required
  • Knowledge in the use of Oracle Cloud and related reporting tools
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax legislation and reporting
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE
  • Strong knowledge of internal controls framework and testing processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Excel skills
