The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Bureau Commander of Field Support is seeking a qualified individual to join our unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide support to the Emergency Management Program within the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to ensure effective emergency response capability and business continuity, including prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities.

This competition will be used to fill future permanent and temporary positions.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America\'s largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. The Emergency Management Unit (EMU) is a team of specialists with training and expertise in the following program/system areas:

Emergency Management Program

Continuity of Operations Program

Incident Management System

Critical Infrastructure Assurance Program

Major Event Security Coordination

Strategic Planning

General emergency preparedness activities

While the primary focus of the EMU is the OPP Corporate Coordination of the above program elements, they also provide direct support to OPP bureaux, regions and detachments in achieving their individual Emergency Management and Continuity of Operations Program area
responsibilities and deliverables.

What can I expect to do in this role?

To provide support to the Emergency Management Program within the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to ensure effective emergency response capability and business continuity, including prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

  • Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
  • Valid Ontario Driver\'s License.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures and guidelines relating to emergency and major event planning and response, such as, Ministry adequacy and effectiveness standards as they relate to emergency management, counter-terrorism, major event planninganf response.
  • Knowledge of Canadian and Ontario legislation, standards, directives, and doctrine relating to emergency management programs.
  • Knowledge of emergency/major event planning theories, practices, and principles, and their application in the delivery of effective emergency management.
  • Knowledge of Incident Command and Management Systems and best practices to build effective command and control structures into emergency and major event plans.
  • Knowledge roles, responsibilities, plans and policies associated with the Emergency Management Programs.
  • Knowledge of risk management, control frameworks and current operational control systems. Knowledge of training and development practices and theories (e.g., adult learning, group dynamics and needs analysis). Ability to utilize Microsoft Suite software.
  • Research and analytical skills to interpret and extract pertinent information from legislation, inquests, exercises, after-action reports, inquiries, and studies for the purpose of assessing the implications to the OPP, to enhance the overall emergency management program and to contribute to corporate memory.
  • Partnership and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and cooperatively with key stakeholders and ability to build manage and sustain respectful relationships to promote awareness of the OPP\'s Emergency Management Program. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a team to achieve group and organizational goals relating to the Program.
  • Written communication skills to prepare documents, plans, reports, memorandums and correspondence.
