What we're looking for:
The Strategic Communications Directorate is building a talent inventory for communications officers, communications advisors and senior communications advisors. We are a busy, close-knit and social team in a smaller, arms-length agency. What makes us unique is that we are also communication regulators. Public information is identified as a key element of nuclear safety, we require our licensees to develop and implement information programs to keep their communities up-to-date on their operations. We oversee and evaluate their compliance, using our communications expertise to help regulate the nuclear industry.
Our team is looking for communications professionals who have experience in one or more of the following areas, corporate communications, regulatory communications, digital communications (web and social media) and creative production.
Essential Qualifications:Education:
Bachelors degree from a recognized university in communications, journalism, or public affairs or an equivalent combination of education (minimum college diploma), experience and relevant job knowledge.
Language Requirements:

Experience:
1 - Communications Officer - REG4 (Public Service equivalency IS-2 and IS-3)
You are curious, think strategically, and take initiative to learn. You are willing to work on a variety of files where needed, taking ownership of projects to ensure their successful delivery.
Experience:
  • Working as part of a team, as well as independently,
  • With handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment,
  • Writing material in plain language.
2 - Communications Advisor - REG5 (Public Service equivalency IS-4)
You are a strategic thinker and storyteller with communications planning, communication programs support (web, social media, outreach, internal communications) and issues management experience. You write well, excel in a team environment, build strong client relationships.
Experience:
  • Providing analysis, strategic communications advice and recommendations to clients and management,
  • Developing and implementing communications strategies and plans,
  • Supporting the management of communications programs such as internal communications, advertising, outreach, web and social media,
  • Managing communications projects,
  • Building and managing client relationships,
  • Writing, developing and project managing a variety of communications products such as social media, web content, fact sheets, media lines, news releases, internal briefing notes, etc.
3 - Senior Communications Advisor - REG6 (Public Service equivalency IS-5)
You are a veteran communicator with extensive communications experience. You are a strategic leader with significant communications planning, management of communications programs (web, social media, outreach, internal communications) and issues management experience. You are skilled at prioritizing work for a team, capable of mentoring staff within the team environment and a strategic storyteller.
Experience:
  • Providing analysis, strategic communications advice and recommendations to senior management and clients,
  • Leading the development and implementation of communication strategies, plans and tools for key corporate communication priorities,
  • Managing issues, including media responses,
  • Managing the communication lifecycle, ensuring successful implementation, delivery and evaluation,
  • Managing communications programs and functions such as internal communications, advertising, outreach, web and social media,
  • Developing and/or overseeing the production of a wide-range of communications products and activities,
  • Mentoring and advising team members in the provision of communication services.
Knowledge of (for all positions):
  • Communications plans and strategies in response to a variety of communication opportunities and issues.
  • Communications best practices and trends and how they help an organization meet its mandate.
Ability to (for all positions):
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Asset Qualification:
  • Knowledge of Government of Canada expectations and priorities from Privy Council Office and Treasury Board Secretariat.
  • Knowledge of Government of Canada communications-related policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization, social media analytics and key performance indicators.
  • Knowledge of web design principles.
  • Experience in a science-based organization.
Operational Needs:
All CNSC staff are subject to the Mobility Directive.
Some overtime may be required.
Positions may be part of an on-call program.
