What does a Security Guard in Toronto do?

• Monitor and control access points to the site, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed entry.
• Verify the identity of individuals seeking respite services and ensure compliance with shelter policies.
• Conduct regular patrols inside and around the shelter premises to deter and detect security risks.
• Use surveillance systems to monitor key areas and respond promptly to any unusual activities.
• Respond promptly to calls for service, emergencies, or security incidents within the shelter.
• Follow established protocols for various types of emergencies, including medical situations, conflicts, or security threats.
• Provide assistance and support to shelter clients, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
• Assist in implementing shelter rules and regulations in a compassionate manner.
• Administer immediate first aid and emergency assistance to shelter clients in need.
• Coordinate with emergency services as required.
• Operate video surveillance equipment

Qualifications to become a Security Guard in Toronto

• Possess a valid Ontario Security Guard license in accordance with local regulations.
• Hold a current First Aid and CPR certification Standard C approved by WSIB
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Empathy and sensitivity towards individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis.
• Training in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in Tactical Security .
• Any Law Related educational degree/diploma /certification like Police Foundations, Criminology is an asset .
• Any pervious experience in handling people from the vulnerable section of the society is an asset
• 1 Year Military Experience is an asset
• Physical fitness for regular patrols and emergency response.
