Position Highlights
To participate in the design and development of complex and/or interrelated programs and/or program systems, and to
perform related programming, maintenance, testing, quality assurance and cost control duties using a variety of
programming languages across multiple different computer platforms.
What you'll do
Participates with senior Data Base and System Development Consultants to design defined programming and other
components for complex new or revised computer systems involving operational and/or data base designs by: reviewing
and/or developing program specifications, and components; refining solution alternatives; modifying/repairing existing
systems; designing, modifying and testing interfaces with other application programs and stems; refining data requirements,
business process flow changes and updating related technology architecture; and assisting with the technical evaluation of
potential software package purchases.
Reviews specifications to determine intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, internal checks, controls and other
features; codes complex application programs using a variety of programming languages across multiple and different
computer platforms and participates on all types and sizes of system development assignments and/or data base
implementation projects; maintains and resolves problems related to complex and interrelated application code/programs/
modules; tests, runs and corrects program code; and analyzes and resolves complex programming problems.
Completes quality assurance checks; obtains approval and runs new/revised programs in the user environment; follows
up to investigate and correct operating problems and to provide on-site familiarization and training to users; and develops
and maintains client relations to ensure high customer satisfaction and the potential for repeat and continued business
remains high.
Prepares and/or updates program documentation to reflect code and program/module changes.
Provides senior level guidance and technical support to the user community regarding system usage, features,
programming techniques for utility languages or macros and to lower level System Developers on programming techniques
and problems.
Participates in special and other projects as required that do not affect the rating of the job.
What you bring
System development design and specification preparation for operational and data base systems, computer programming,
coding, recoding, program logic determination, compiling testing and debugging routines, procedures and techniques,
application program maintenance, work flow charting, diagram and system specification preparation and analysis, file and
data base structure, hierarchical and relational data base concepts, specification preparation, user manuals, program
documentation and quality standards, estimating, documentation preparation methods and procedures, client relations
development, personal computer and related application program operation, oral and written communication techniques
and knowledge are typically acquired through graduation from a university degree program in Computer Science or Diploma
program in Computer Systems Technology with additional courses equivalent to a degree; plus a combination of additional
courses specific to an assigned responsibility area and the BC Hydro suite of Common Desktop applications.
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in developing and completing progressively more complex programming
assignments as a System Developer 2 or equivalent is required.
Well-developed oral and interpersonal communications skills.

This is a 12 month FTT role.
Hands on experience on system interface development is an asset.
Good knowledge of NERC standards, particular in CIP4 and CIP6 and CIP 7, and CIP10 is an asset.
Working experience supporting BCH compliance systems is an asset, such as SureSite, SigmaFlow, and etc.
Strong understanding of the ITIL Framework, and hands on experience using ServiceNow is an asset.
