Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools invites applications for a full time, out-of-scope Information Technology System Administrator.

Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools is Saskatchewan\xe2\x80\x99s largest Catholic school division located on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the M\xc3\xa9tis. Our dynamic and growing school division currently employs approximately 2,200 full- and part-time teaching, support and service staff. Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Infrastructure Support Services, this position is responsible for the effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of server systems hardware, software and related infrastructure. The successful applicant will work with a modernized technology team that recently completed a repositioning restructure.

Roles and Responsibilities

Server Administration:

  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot both Windows and Linux servers.
  • Ensure the installation and timely updates of software, patches, and security enhancements.
Backup and Recovery:
  • Develop and maintain robust data backup and recovery strategies.
  • Conduct routine data backups and ensure the availability of reliable restore options to mitigate system failures or data loss.
Performance Optimization:
  • Continuously monitor system performance to identify and address bottlenecks.
  • Optimize system resources to ensure efficient and seamless operations.
  • Strategically plan for scalability to accommodate future growth.
User Support:
  • Provide end-users with superior technical support.
  • Resolve hardware and software issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Assist in user onboarding and offer training when needed.
Documentation:
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation covering system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and keep it up to date for reference.
Vendor Coordination:
  • Collaborate with technology vendors and service providers for hardware, software licenses, and services procurement.
  • Manage vendor relationships to uphold service level agreements.
Collaboration:
  • Foster close collaboration with cross-functional teams to comprehend technology requirements.
  • Offer technical expertise to various projects within the organization.
  • Facilitate effective system integration with IT and development teams.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • University Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Experience administering Windows servers in an enterprise environment, including SCCM, Microsoft365 tenancy management and Azure.
  • Experience administering backup systems.
  • Experience working with both physical and virtual servers, including provisioning, configuration, and monitoring.
  • Scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and system management.
  • Experience administering Linux servers.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to the ideals and principles of Catholic education.
Work location is at the GSCS Service Centre at 1402 Fletcher Road, though occasional travel to the GSCS datacentres (located in Saskatoon), administrative buildings (located in Saskatoon) and schools (some located out of town) is required. The ability to work a flexible work schedule is required. A valid Saskatchewan driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and a safe, reliable, licensed, and insured vehicle are also required.
