We are currently looking for a Specialist Sustainability. The Sustainability Specialist will be an integral part of the Sobeys National Corporate Sustainability team and play role in implementing key initiatives related to the Corporate Sustainability strategy. The Specialist will help deliver meaningful change related to environmental commitments that will be both measured and tracked for progress. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Sustainability, the role will liaise with a variety of functions across the business as well as external partners.
The objective of this position is to support, facilitate, and advance Sobeys\' Sustainability Strategy and related programs by designing, implementing and/or facilitating the design and implementation of initiatives and programs. This is a hybrid role and there is an in-office requirement of 3 times a week and this is a 12 month contract.Here\'s where you\'ll be focusing:

  • Build and manage relationships with internal stakeholders for data gathering, calculating, reviewing analyzing and organizing for over 140 Environmental Social Governance (ESG) metrics in priority areas for internal reporting and external disclosure (e.g. annual Sustainable Business Report, ESG metrics, SASB and CDP).
  • Key contact for business teams as it relates to ESG metrics and data.
  • Leading project management of annual publication of Sustainable Business Report and managing internal and external relationship for a successful release.
  • Identify gaps in ESG-related activity and disclosure and engage with internal stakeholders to close gaps over the short-term and long-term.
  • Leading education and awareness on ESG metrics and process.
  • Leading the GHG Inventory for calendar and fiscal year data, managing and supporting consultants in completing organization emission calculation.
  • Develop a more efficient system for GHG data collection and accounting, continuously work on process improvement and data evolution.
  • Leading the SBTi Net Zero submission and validation activity.
  • Leading assessing new ESG frameworks and standards and providing recommendations.
  • Lead the establishment and management of a central database (i.e. \xe2\x80\x9cdata warehouse/ ESG platform\xe2\x80\x9d) to collect ESG-related metrics and track KPIs.
What you have to offer:
  • Motivated, proactive and passionate about making positive change.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in sustainability related field, related to GHG accounting (e.g. GHG Protocol) and reporting & disclosure.
  • Master\'s Degree in climate or environmental science, sustainability, Data analysis or related field of study.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and thought leadership in ESG.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), managing databases, and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills in providing reports/briefings and presentations to inform decision-making
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and plan effectively, and work with multiple deadlines.
  • Strong research skills and resourcefulness are essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective team player.
  • Forward-thinking mindset with a demonstrated ability to be innovative and \xe2\x80\x9cthink outside the box\xe2\x80\x9d.
