Position: Sustainability Data Advisor

We are looking for a dynamic professional to join our team, with a specific focus on data management related to the areas of Sustainability and Environmental Social Governance (ESG). The job will include compiling data from multiple platforms & tools, performing detailed analysis of data and processes and producing multiple reports for various regulators and for the annual Sustainability Reports. The role requires an understanding of business process modeling and working with various business groups to identify areas of process improvement.

As the Sustainability Data Advisor, you are responsible for obtaining, analyzing, documenting, and validating business requirements as it pertains to ATCO Utilities\' environmental sustainability systems. Your data management skills come into play as you build bridges between groups and systems, analyze existing data sources from our data warehouses, and configure dashboards, such as PowerBI, that allow for visualization of environmental indicators performance.

What You Get to Do:

  • Working with project and program staff to identify data management needs and requirements
  • Support the development and management of content for the annual Corporate Sustainability Reports, quarterly KPIs and ad hoc reporting requests that highlight progress and performance against approved sustainability goals and commitments.
  • Perform auditing and investigation of data and system functionality to ensure accuracy and integrity.
  • Define, organize, implement, and enforce correct data importing, data exporting, data collection, management validation, and reporting workflows and policies
  • Assist with training sessions to aid employees to be able to use the data management system independently and effectively
  • Ensure the proper functioning of data management software
  • Establish standards and processes and help define tools to facilitate data collection, management, and reporting
  • Lead the implementation of new technology to expand services to internal project teams and clients
  • Manage the intake of environmental compliance data, verifying accuracy and completeness against compliance commitments for annual reporting such as NPRI, GHGRP, TIER, MSAPR, EC Reporting, AEIR, Statistics Canada Reporting, Yukon and Northwest Territories Reporting and AER Directive 060 reporting in consultation with other key stakeholders across ATCO
  • Contribute to various professional reports and applications for submission internally and to regulators
  • Cultivate collaboration to create and advise on innovative procedures to organize and coordinate data management systems and practices
  • Liaise and coordinate with other teams to ensure the fulfillment of EMS commitments
  • Have day-to-day oversight of air emissions reporting, this may include managing contractors and consultants, managing the review and third-party verification of emissions-related data on time and within budget, overall to meet regulatory requirements and company policies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Environmental Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, or related discipline.
  • 1-3 years of experience in energy, utilities, or related industries
  • Experience with designing and automating digital workflows ranging from project planning, mobile data collection and data engineering, to data warehousing, database management, data analysis, and data visualization.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools like MS Power BI, MS Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and comfortable using software such as SharePoint, Maximo and ESG software
  • Experience with database or programming platforms (for example, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Visual Studio, Visual Basic for Applications, HTML, Java/JavaScript, Python, R or similar)
  • Experience in environmental data management, analytical data validation, environmental data analysis and/or visualization.
  • Experience with environmental software implementation in a consulting/industrial environment
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal GHG reporting, and an understanding of the importance of regulatory requirements with respect to industry
  • Proficiencies in database management, data analysis, and environmental reporting
  • Strong understanding of ESG concepts, frameworks (GRI, TCFD, SASB) and related use of operational and data systems.
