Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Sushi Chef to prepare a variety of sushi and sashimi dishes according to our high standards of quality, presentation, and taste. The ideal candidate will have a deep respect for the art of sushi, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to excellence in every dish they create.
Key Responsibilities:
Preparation & Craftsmanship:
Prepare all types of sushi, including nigiri, sashimi, maki rolls, and specialty rolls.
Fabricate, fillet, and portion a variety of fish and seafood with precision.
Cook and season sushi rice to perfection, maintaining consistency.
Prepare other Japanese kitchen items such as tempura, and veggie as needed.
Quality & Sanitation:
Maintain the highest standards of food safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene at all times.
Monitor the freshness and quality of all ingredients, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO) and storage.
Ensure the sushi station is impeccably clean, organized, and fully stocked.
Customer Service & Interaction:
Interact with guests in a professional and friendly manner, especially when working at the sushi bar.
Answer guest questions knowledgeably about sushi ingredients and preparation methods.
Accommodate special requests and dietary restrictions when possible.
Teamwork & Operations:
Collaborate with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth service.
Assist with inventory ordering and managing supplies for the sushi department.
Contribute to developing new and seasonal menu items.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Proven experience as a Sushi Chef, Sushi Cook, in a restaurant.
In-depth knowledge of Japanese cuisine, especially sushi and sashimi techniques.
Ability to identify and work with a wide variety of fish and seafood.
Understanding of food safety standards (Food Handler certification a plus).
Knife skills of the highest caliber.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
A professional appearance and demeanor.
Legal right to work in Canada.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $24.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week
