Overview

Avenue MD Surgical Inc., a private plastic surgery clinic in Yorkville, is seeking a part-time Surgical Assistant. This role is focused on intraoperative support, directly assisting the surgeon and maintaining sterile technique throughout procedures. The ideal candidate has operating room training and experience as a scrub nurse or surgical assistant, with the ability to adapt to the specialized needs of plastic surgery.

Duties

Function as primary scrub during plastic surgery procedures Prepare, organize, and maintain sterile surgical instruments and supplies Anticipate surgeon needs and assist during surgery Ensure adherence to infection prevention and operating room protocols Support pre- and post-operative workflows as required Collaborate with nursing, anesthesia, and administrative teams to ensure patient safety and efficiency

Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), or Surgical Assistant with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is a plus Proven experience as a scrub nurse in an accredited surgical setting Extensive knowledge of aseptic technique, sterile processing, and infection control protocols Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments requiring critical thinking and rapid decision-making Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and diagnostic evaluation methods Excellent communication skills for patient assessment and interdisciplinary collaboration Ability to maintain composure during emergency situations such as acute pain management or airway management scenarios
Approximately 150 surgical days per year (3-5 days per week). Shifts typically start at 6:30 a.m. and finish between 4:00-7:00 p.m., depending on the surgical schedule.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $60.00-$67.00 per hour
