JOB POSTING - SUPPORTIVE ROOMMATE

Optional Rehabilitation Services Inc. (OPTIONS) is a not-for profit agency approved to support adults and seniors who have a wide range of disabilities. For over 38 years and in a partnership of support, OPTIONS, individuals and their families work together to create individualized support models that enhance and fulfill hopes and dreams.

OPTIONS is looking for aSupportive Roommate who could

reside in our client's home in NW Calgary.

We are looking for an individual who would become a part of our client's home and take him out to explore different events in Calgary and community. Our client is very independent and likes activities such as music, karaoke, and wrestling.

The Supportive Roommate must have the following requirements:

HOME REQUIREMENTS

Live in client's home with our client and help him to manage all relevant aspects of household management. This would include: ensuring the home has a safety inspection yearly (through agency), fire safety detectors, furnace inspection, fire extinguisher, etc. You will need Commercial Liability Insurance and tenant insurance for the home.

The Supportive Roommate will be required to pay monthly rent

RESPONSIBILITIES

Ability to provide supportive and positive companionship to an adult with a mental health/development disability. Strong advocacy skills to ensure the individuals voice is heard and respected, including guidance and support around guardianship matters. Support the client with household duties such as laundry, providing meals and cleaning. Active participation in the individual's care plan and support team. Ensure that our client is included in community activities and is an active member in the household. Complete Supportive Roommate documentation as provided and required by OPTIONS.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Experience working with an adult with mental health/developmental disabilities. Have a background in disability services or relevant field such as Social Work, Nursing, etc. Must be able to speak English at a level that enables them to communicate effectively and effortlessly. Willingness to attend mandatory training (Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Positive Behavioral Supports, Emergency First Aid, etc.). Minimum Class 5 License with $2M Liability Vehicle Insurance. Current Security Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Check.
