, as a family advocacy organization, is committed to providing individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families with personalized advocacy that contributes to a meaningful and inclusive life.
This position will assist families in the Calgary Region to develop a vision for their child's inclusive life in the community and develop and execute a plan to achieve this vision. The SCSF Coordinator will work to enhance the capacity of Calgary and area communities to respond to families who have sons and daughters with intellectual disabilities in accessing inclusive recreation and leisure activities and, where needed, assist families in securing any necessary support to ensure success.
Duties and responsibilities:

The Supportive Communities Strengthening Families Coordinator:
Works directly with children and youth with intellectual disabilities and their families in the Calgary region to develop a vision for an inclusive life in their community, including recreation, childcare, planning for life after high school and other community-based activities
Provides families with relevant resources, information and support to plan for and access community inclusion
Supports families in identifying and accessing community recreation and leisure programs, including liaising with providers, registration and enrolment and supporting successful participation
Assists families in obtaining and effectively utilizing support staff to facilitate their children's meaningful participation in community life
Develops and supports the networking of families who are committed to pursuing inclusion
Builds family knowledge and capacity in leveraging the resources available within their communities
Supports youth with intellectual disabilities and their families in understanding the planning and preparation needed in high school to create opportunities for meaningful life afterwards, through developing personalized action plans that support an inclusive and meaningful life after high school
Builds family capacity to create and maintain an inclusive life through FSCD supports and in transition from FSCD to PDD supports
Community Development:
Proactively identify collaboration opportunities and establish partnerships with community organizations - including recreation and childcare organizations to facilitate inclusion and membership
Organize, facilitate, and make presentations at community meetings in specified locations within the region
Participate in the development of materials, resources and presentations
Work with community organizations and businesses in the Calgary Region to enhance their capacity to enable and facilitate the inclusion of children and youth with intellectual disabilities
Inclusion Alberta:
Participate in and contribute to the family leadership
Coordinate with individual and family advocacy and community engagement with all other Inclusion Alberta initiatives
Support the FMS Learning Series in Calgary hosted by the Darrell Cook Family Managed Supports Resource Centre
Complete contractual commitments and reporting obligations on time
Participate and contribute to the organization's fund development strategy
Other Duties:
As assigned by the Provincial Coordinator, Darrell Cook Family Managed Supports Resource Centre
Qualifications
Qualified candidates will have:
A university degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience
Demonstrated values-based training and track record reflective of a commitment to inclusion
Exhibit knowledge and experience related to personal futures planning and fostering inclusive community engagement or education
Deep understanding of inclusion, community capacity development
Ability to facilitate collaboration across multiple community stakeholders
Knowledge of or connections with community recreation and leisure programming in the Calgary area would be an asset
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Ability to manage competing priorities
Competent writing ability
Working Conditions
This position is located in Calgary and the area. Candidates will require a vehicle and the capacity to travel within Alberta regularly.
