OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the CSH or TFC Supervisor, the Support Worker will be responsible for working alongside House Parents in providing care for youth, including holistic care that responds to their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs. The Support Worker provides support for youth whose needs are beyond those that are typical for youth their age while residing at SAI homes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation and provision of healthy meals that respond to the nutritional needs of the youth, working alongside youth to teach skills of meal preparation, nutrition and budgeting
  • Interact with the children through shared activities, based on their developmental needs and interests, including attending SAI and SECFS program activities alongside
  • Support youth in finding and participating in volunteer work. Guide youth in building a resume and finding employment
  • Support youth in completing school work
  • Use nurturing and strength-based language to support positive self-identity
  • Assist youth in building emotional intelligence through supporting and guiding behaviours with a nurturing approach
  • Support youth in learning about their cultural identity in age-appropriate ways, including access to opportunities to learn or maintain Indigenous language
  • Support healthy family connections through facilitating family contact in family visits, as directed by the guardian agency
  • Attend quarterly goal-setting meetings with youth and work with youth to attain stated goals
  • Provide monthly reports indicating work done with youth toward goal setting plan or assist foster parent with completing monthly report regarding child’s progress
  • Maintain accurate reporting utilizing daily file recordings, logs, email, incident reports, meetings and phone conversations
  • Communicate concerns, needs and observations to Program Supervisor and/or Community Coordinator in a timely manner
  • Conduct light housekeeping
  • Follow guidance and direction of house parent regarding routines and processes in the home
  • Respond to all emergencies, contacting house parent, SECFS, medical professionals and police as necessary
  • Follow SAI policies regarding confidentiality, social media use, and professional conduct
  • Accompany youth to appointments as directed by the house parent

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three years experience working with children, at risk youth and families
  • Completion of Child and Youth Care Program, Family Support Worker Certificate, or other relevant combination of education and work/life experience
  • Knowledge of Community resources
  • Knowledge in the area of Addictions and Trauma and the effect it has on families
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation
  • Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies.
  • Good communication, organization, problem solving and team skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Clear Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, Prior Contact Check and Driver’s Abstract
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabe preferred
  • Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date.
