TH offers a wide range of acute and post-acute care including emergency and intensive care, medical/surgical care, obstetrical, rehabilitation and complex/transitional care and palliative care services. In addition to the above, the Hospital offers laboratory, diagnostic imaging and mental health and addictions programs.

Current Recruitment Incentives:

The Support Services Manager is responsible for the efficient provision of support services including Laundry, Housekeeping, Medical Device Reprocessing and Waste Management. They are accountable in ensuring cleanliness, sanitation and orderliness of the Hospital facility and articles while maintaining the judicious use of supplies and equipment. This role oversees activities of Housekeeping, Laundry Services and Medical Device Reprocessing according to recognized standards and administrative policies. They will devise, develop and adapt operational methods and techniques to provide maximum efficiency within budget allowances.

RESPONSIBILITIES

:



Act as a consultant, liaison and subject matter expert to all internal and external stakeholders. Assess, analyze and implement protocols and practices in compliance with provincial and federal guidelines. Develop and communicate policies, procedures and best practice guidelines. Review, select and distribute appropriate scientific evidence and best practices. Link with external agencies across the continuum of care. Participate in continuous quality improvement principles. Possess the ability to act as a resource and problem solve issues. Plan and direct activities for housekeeping, laundry and MDRD services. Organizes and supervises employees to make efficient use of time and equipment with respect to housekeeping and laundry services. Establish and maintain departmental procedures in conformance with administrative policies. Develop standards and set goals and expectations for areas of responsibility. Participates as a member of the hospital management team in the development, interpretation, co-ordination, implementation and evaluation of hospital policies, procedures and plans. Inspects areas to ascertain conformance to regulations (WSIB, WHMIS, environmental, etc.). Ensuring all departmental staff have required education / training and develops ongoing educational and training plans to meet department / employee needs. Develops and maintains record systems, standard material specifications, locating sources of supply and services, and making purchases consistent with price and quality considerations. Ensures quality related to housekeeping and laundry services. In conjunction with Human Resources, participate in recruitment efforts such as screen resumes, attend interviews, selection of departmental personnel, and assist with onboarding. Organizes department orientation for new staff, on-the-job training and work assignments. Prepares staff schedules. Reviews work and leave schedules for staff and ensures that payroll information is accurate and provided to payroll as required. Responsible for staff performance and discipline as required. Completes staff performance reviews. Responsible and accountable for the preparation and adherence to departmental budgets. Prepares and submits department budget and budget variance reports as required. Establishes effective relationships with medical staff, nursing and other patient-care services to provide maximum quality and efficiency. Participates in monthly Hospital Leadership Team meetings and keeps department staff informed regarding policy changes, new developments and trends. Follows the Collective Bargaining Agreement and WHMIS regulations affecting staff for which they are administratively responsible. Maintains a positive and professional relationship with the direct departmental reports and initiate conflict resolutions efforts when needed. Participates in day-to-day events such as resolving workflow issues, scheduling oversight, answering employee inquiries, etc. Monitor department performance by conducting probation / performance evaluations and initiate corrective actions when required. Obtains and maintains current MSDS for hazardous chemicals used and / or retained in the department. Provides information, instruction and supervision to departmental staff on proper handling of potentially toxic substances. Keep up-to-date with current hospital programs, Risk Management, WHMIS and Emergency Plans. Contribute to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families. Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:



EDUCATION AND TRAINING:



Graduate from an approved college or university with a diploma or degree in business or health administration is preferred. Additional training in environmental services leadership program (i.e. Canadian Healthcare Housekeeper's Association) and / or equivalent related healthcare experience is an asset.

EXPERIENCE:



Three to five years' experience in a managerial position in a healthcare environment is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES & PERSONAL SUITABILITY:



Demonstrated knowledge of employee relations, Quality Management, Risk Management, WHMIS, Infection Control, ethics, food sanitation, safety, food and labour laws and accepted serving techniques. Demonstrated ability to plan long-range objectives. Considerable initiative and judgement involved in developing record systems, standard material specifications, locating sources of supply and services, and making purchases consistent with price and quality considerations. Demonstrated courtesy and cooperation in dealing with physicians, patients and personnel, and co-workers. Demonstrated commitment to the safety of co-workers and patients. Demonstrated ability to use tact and discretion in dealing with health care providers and employees. Demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to coach, advise and teach others using the principles of adult learning. Demonstrated ability to identify issues, plan improvements, measure success and continue improvement. Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills. Willingness to work with the realization that errors may have serious consequences for patients. Commitment to ongoing professional development. Positive work record and excellent attendance record. Ability to meet the physical and sensory demands of the job. Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
