Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is storage for the Internet. Through the use of pioneering techniques in storage & computing, developers are able to reliably store their data on Amazon's proven computing infrastructure to achieve virtually limitless storage capacity at minimal cost. Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface and web that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of, at any time, from anywhere on the web. It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, secure, fast, inexpensive infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites. The service aims to maximize benefits of scale and to pass those benefits on to developers.

S3 Harmony team is responsible for keeping S3 always scaled and efficiently utilized to meet the ever-growing needs of S3 customers. We own, maintain and innovate on two dimensions: Analytics and Control Plane. The Control Plane responsibility is in charge of enabling capacity as soon as it becomes available, reacting to health signals from various upstream sources to re-configure our capacity utilization according to its health. The responsibility of Capacity Analytics is to monitor the state of S3 capacity and the customer traffic flowing through it to produce insights around overhead and utilization. We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our team and help us in consolidating the Analytics and Control Plane responsibilities across all S3 fleets.

The Amazon S3 Team, Equilibrium, is looking for Support Engineer to work on our team. The Equilibrium team maintains capacity for the S3 Webserver and Storage fleet. To accomplish our mission, we have developed different services to automate routine tasks and maintain capacity in the region.
To meet and exceed our customers' expectations, we are constantly working to ensure S3 fleet is in good health and can scale to provide capacity as requested by our customers.

As a support engineer, you will be joining our S3 Harmony team to operate S3 largest fleets scaling activities and ensuring each region's capacity health. You will also get to work on new automation projects, software deployments and build services to automate tasks for our team and our customers. We are growing and you will contribute towards our rapidly increasing scale in the face of explosive customer growth.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work on operations and maintenance driven coding projects, primarily in JAVA and Python.

  • Provide support of incoming tickets, including extensive troubleshooting tasks, with responsibilities covering multiple products, features, and services.

  • Software deployment support in staging and production environments.

  • Develop tools to automate operations and maintenance.

  • Identify the current gaps and work towards building metrics to monitor the performance of our services.

  • Work with the development team to automate features and service maintenance activities.

* B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience * 2+ years overall development or technical support experience (less with Master’s Degree) * Knowledge of the UNIX/Linux operating system * Knowledge of Python/Java based technologies * Excellent verbal and written communication Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
