Position Summary
TReporting to the Early Years Coordinator, the Supported Childcare Educator is responsible for working directly with children referred to the Support Child Development program, providing personalized care and education. This role is part of a collaborative team of educators, service providers, and families to ensure the inclusion and support of all children. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Support and Education:
+ Work directly with children referred to Support Child Development as part of the educator team.
+ Collaborate with service providers, such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and behavioral consultants, to implement individualized strategies and support plans.
+ Assist in implementing a collaborative, emergent, and responsive curriculum in line with the BC Early Learning Framework and the Reggio Emilia Approach.
+ Utilize creative and critical thinking skills to develop and implement extracurricular activity ideas, milestone boxes, and individualized learning plans based on each child's needs.
+ Work with children to educate them with preschool-type activities and provide daily walks for fresh air and experience.
+ Provide 1:1 support to children experiencing strong emotions using safe and respectful strategies.
Team Collaboration and Communication:
+ Attend team meetings and liaise with service providers to ensure consistent and effective communication regarding each child's progress and needs.
+ Follow guidance provided by the Early Years Coordinator and work closely with the Quatsino Early Childhood Education (QEC) Navigator and Supervisor.
+ Maintain open and effective communication with families, colleagues, and community partners to support the transition of information and collaborative planning.
General Duties:
+ Substitute where needed at the Centre, including bus runs, after-school programs, and other areas as required.
+ Clean and maintain spaces, including toys, sweeping floors, and general cleaning.
+ Follow policy and procedures and maintain confidentiality for members, clients, students, employees, and the general matters of the nation.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
+ Valid Early Childhood Education/Special Needs certificate or equivalent training.
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience in a licensed childcare facility or a combination of education and experience.
+ Currently attending school to become an Early Childhood Educator.
Certificates and Requirements:
+ Valid First Aid and CPR certificates.
+ Criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
+ Non-violent intervention training and experience.
+ Class 5 driver's license and clean driver abstract.
Skills and Abilities:
+ Minimum age of 19 years old.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as part of a team.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for supporting and advocating for children and families.
+ Understanding and commitment to the principles of inclusion.
+ Physical ability to keep up with energetic children.
+ Creative and critical thinking skills, along with a sense of humor.
+ Solid knowledge and experience in implementing safe and respectful strategies to support children who require 1:1 support.

The position may require some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the children and families.
The role involves physical activity, including lifting, bending, and participating in outdoor activities.
* The Supported Childcare Educator will work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
