You will be responsible for continuous improvement of transit processes and procedures, overseeing training requirements and all Standard Operating procedures and Standard Practice Instructions; your leadership will continue to support superior front line service delivery.In this broad role, you\xe2\x80\x99ll ensure that maintenance SOP\xe2\x80\x99s and SPI\xe2\x80\x99s meet service levels according to plan and budget. Through performance metrics, you\xe2\x80\x99ll drive continuous improvement and support organizational decision-making. The successful candidate will develop, write and implement policies, practices and procedures for both employees and management of Transit Maintenance.Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain clearly understood and efficient procedures for transit maintenance operations. Ensure procedures satisfy all occupational, operational, and regulatory requirements including MOL.
  • Prioritize procedural changes based on input from health and safety teams as well as commercial teams to reduce injury severity/length and increase commercial competitiveness.
  • Coordinate with transit maintenance & operations training department on the roll out of new transit equipment to ensure safe and efficient implementation.
  • Maintain & update documentation of maintenance processes and standards that satisfy corporate safety and MOL Canada.
  • Communicate policy & procedural changes through various internal media (email, bulletin, etc) to all affected stakeholders.
  • Ensure policy changes can be effectively understood by using different types of tools such as video and images, and verbiage reflects the diversity of language levels of front line staff.
  • Perform risk assessments with the local occupational health and safety teams and within the transit maintenance and operations department. Assign risk ratings based on frequency and severity of hazards.
  • Leader internal safety audits to enhance safety culture within transit maintenance and operations department defining low, medium, and high levels of risks.
  • Develop corrective action plans that satisfy mitigations as required from safety audit findings.
  • Document, validate and implement necessary training to ensure transit maintenance is compliant with all internal, occupational, operational and regulatory requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Business or related field; or any combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum 5-8 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a progressive maintenance management role.
  • Solid understanding of public transportation/transit industry and trends is highly desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of shop management practices and preventative maintenance theory.
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Labour requirements.
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative requirements such as the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and audiences with differing views and perspectives including Members of Council, the public and community groups.
  • Strong strategic and decision making skills balanced with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability for coaching, developing and leading a team through times of continuous change while maintaining a positive, healthy and productive work environment.
  • Proven record of executing procedures and processes which foster efficiencies and an increase in productivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and transfer information and knowledge in a formal and informal environment along with solid written communication skills.
  • A valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license with a clean driving record acceptable to the City.
  • Leadership competencies include strategic agility, business acumen, communication and relationship building, developing culture and people, driving change and taking accountability.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 86,858.00 - $ 115,812.00
