Learn more about the top reasons to join us:Position Background & Overview:Culture & Entertainment is a newly formed division that sits within Economic Development (Development Services Department) and includes three units - Arts & Creative Industries, Special Events, and the Centralized Service Provider.The Centralized Service Provider is responsible for providing business services and operational support to the culture and entertainment venues owned by the City of Kitchener. City-owned culture venues include The Aud, The Centre In The Square, the Registry Theatre, the Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts, 44 Gaukel Creative Hub, Victoria Park Pavilion, THEMUSEUM, and the Homer Watson House & Gallery.Reporting to the Director of Culture & Entertainment, the Supervisor of Sales & Business Services oversees revenue-generating functions for the Culture & Entertainment division. To achieve our vision of building a culture and entertainment scene that inspires our community, mission steps for this role include developing business services in partnership with the venue operators and other internal departments, finding sales and marketing efficiencies for all City-owned culture venues, and managing key business relationships for the division.Responsibilities:

  • Establishes and maintains productive and collaborative working relationships with a variety of invested groups, including venue operators, event organizers, government officials, City staff, not-for-profit organizations, and commercial entities.
  • Works toward increasing the viability and sustainability of City-owned culture venues (e.g., increasing attendance, utilization, number of events, local organization involvement, ticket revenue, and rental income).
  • Supports a collaborative centralized ticketing platform and its associated relationships.
  • Leads overarching brand development of Kitchener\'s culture and entertainment scene in partnership with venue operators and the City\'s Corporate Communications & Marketing team.
  • Facilitates coordinated audience development efforts across all venues as well as shared marketing and promotions (e.g., shared campaigns, social media, event calendar, etc.).
  • A key point of entry and support for local organizations and commercial opportunities (e.g., event inquiries intake and assignment, booking assistance, and cultural event bids).
  • Works with third-party promoters and event organizers to facilitate events in City-owned venues. Also responsible for programming and presenting events.
  • Formulates effective goals, objectives, strategies, policies, and programs for the Supervisor role and its direct reports.
  • Anticipates future trends and interests as it relates to culture and entertainment, proactively developing and implementing creative, innovative, and forward-thinking strategies with venue operators that meet the diverse needs of our community.
  • Ongoing identification of new revenue opportunities for all invested groups.
  • Effectively communicates politically sensitive information both verbally and in writing, analyzing issues from multiple perspectives.
  • Represents the City effectively in meetings, preparing and delivering persuasive presentations.
Requirements:
  • 3-year degree/diploma in a related field.
  • 4-7 years of related industry experience.
  • Experience managing and leading a team of full-time and part-time staff in an events and venue management environment.
  • Experience managing and maintaining ticketing systems and hardware.
  • Experience organizing and leading major projects, demonstrating strong communication skills, and fostering productive working relationships with a variety of invested groups.
  • Experience with marketing and sales strategies, audience development, brand management, ticketing, rental/co-production/presentation agreements, and other event-related business services.
  • Experience negotiating and fulfilling contracts, agreements, and deal points in the culture and entertainment industry.
  • Experience and applicable knowledge in finance, budgeting, and accounting as it relates to venues and events.
  • Demonstrated experience and a broad understanding of event and venue management principles and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively problem-solve complex venue and event-related issues.
  • Ability to use basic computer applications (e.g., Office). AutoCAD experience is an asset.
  • Organization and administrative skills to coordinate the work of others and schedule staff.
  • Excellent decision-making skills, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence with the patience to teach, coach, inspire, motivate, and support a team.
  • Knowledge of employment, labour, and health and safety legislation.
  • Experience working with the Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
  • Ability to travel to various locations across the City.
