Our Team

The Thompson Mines Operations Team is key to safely delivering production targets in a challenging mining environment. Working collaboratively with multiple Operations, Maintenance and Support groups, the Production Supervisor will provide leadership which will enable the mine to safely and efficiently produce mine product that will meet the business needs of the Thompson Mines.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Production Supervisor to join our Leadership Team in our Thompson, Manitoba Operations. This is a Permanent position.

As a production supervisor, you will continuously improve the work team performance through effective use of established processes and procedures in achieving assigned objectives. This includes ensuring the completion of assigned work with consistency and accuracy.

Additionally, in this position you will

  • Work on a rotation schedule (5/4 schedule days and nights).
  • Ensure Zero Harm to employees, the business, the environment and the community.
  • Empower and lead the team to meet safety, production and cost targets while caring for the environment.
  • Focus on achieving the daily and weekly work schedules and contribute to the development of monthly and quarterly plans.
  • Lead a unionized workforce and manage a crew according to our Vale policies and procedures, and respective collective agreement.
  • Manage overtime to within targets and distribute to crew members within the CBA and provincial guidelines.
  • Achieve/exceed production quality and quantity targets while maximizing economic resources and recovery.
  • Review and communicate Risk Management situations with crew members at line-up and field discussions.
  • Perform injury management, working with employees and health care providers to successfully return the employee to work. Follow notification protocols for incidents and initiate on-shift investigations.
  • Identify and correct negative special cause circumstances that are within the authority level and escalate those that are outside authority.
  • Control inventories of consumables and supplies, and order materials to achieve production schedules.
  • Identify vital training for employees to meet the requirements of the area.
  • Report on critical metrics, trend analysis and drive continuous process improvements.
  • Coach and counsel employees on the standards of behavior and take corrective actions as required, including discipline and grievance management.
  • Continuously improve the performance of the production frontline team through the effective use of established processes and procedures. This includes ensuring the completion of assigned work with increasing consistency and accuracy by: Ensuring work gets done is a safe and coordinated way, assess assignments during the shift to ensure that schedules are being attained and/or take corrective actions as required. Complete all production related reports and work orders and communicate status to oncoming shift(s).
About You

Education:
  • College Diploma or a minimum grade 12 with equivalent experience is required.
  • Completion of a supervisor training program is preferred.
Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in an industrial setting.
  • Experience with SAP is preferred.
Skills:
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work well with others in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, coach, influence and collaborate with others to build effective working relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Software skills in MS Office products.
