The Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring the consistent delivery of patient-centered care that is safe, efficient, and aligned with best practices and the Hospital's vision and strategic goals. The Supervisor, in partnership with the Manager, will oversee daily operations, quality and safety, resource allocation, patient flow and team performance, ensuring that patient needs are met promptly and effectively. The Supervisor will foster an environment of continuous improvement and learning, supporting staff learning and competence and encouraging innovation and responsiveness to the dynamic needs of the acute care mental health services. The Supervisor shows evidence of achieving results, leading effectively, thinking critically, sound judgment and demonstrates personal effectiveness. The Supervisor supports corporate and program-level change initiatives and quality improvement initiatives.
The Supervisor will support the Psychiatric Emergency Zone, Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit and Child and Youth Inpatient Mental Health Unit. The Supervisor will also be trained and expected to cover in other mental health and substance use programs, based on operational needs. The supervisor will be expected to work as Manager On-Call on a rotational basis.
EDUCATION
Registered Nurse with current certificate of Registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
BScN required.
Masters in nursing or healthcare field considered a strong asset.
Canadian Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Certification strongly preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 5 years clinical practice in mental health and substance use services. Previous practice experience in acute care mental health services in a hospital setting preferred. Previous experience working across the lifespan is preferred.
Minimum 2 years experience in a leadership capacity required. Previous formal leadership experience in a hospital environment preferred.
Experience in a unionized environment with strong labour and employee relations skills.
Effective leadership skills with experience in developing others.
Strong organizational awareness and knowledge of organizational structures and functions.
Excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated superior problem solving, judgmentand critical thinking skills.
Ability to think strategically and align actions with strategic goals.
Demonstrated embodiment of MGH core values.
Advocate for patients, staff and the advancement of professional practice.
Knowledge of scheduling and staffing principles.
Experience using scheduling systems and payroll systems
Demonstrated ability in fair and equitable work practices.
Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate effectively as a team member.
Working knowledge of clinical/administrative computer software, as required.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
Good work and attendance record required.
