JOB SUMMARY


The mandate of the Health Protection Service is to advance the health of Ottawa residents through the provision and delivery of integrated, client-centric health protection services and programs including: Infection Prevention and Control, Sexual Health, Communicable Diseases, Outbreak Management, Substance Misuse, Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery, Food Safety, Safe Water, Health Hazards Prevention and Management, and Healthy Environments as outlined in Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care standards, protocols and guidelines. You are responsible for the implementation, maintenance and evaluation of the Harm Reduction Program within Ottawa Public Health, as well as coordinating and supervising health promotion strategies/initiatives in the area of Harm Reduction. You supervise PHN positions and others, providing direct and indirect supervision including recruiting, training, and conducting performance evaluations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Completion of 4 year university degree in Nursing (BScN) Minimum of 3 years of experience in the public health field with increasing levels of responsibility, including several years of experience in organizing, and providing programs and services to marginalized populations, including providing community outreach and working with community agencies.

Registered Nurse (RN) current with College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Must be familiar with all applicable Health and Safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.
  • Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Language Requirement: Designated Bilingual \xe2\x80\x93 specific level of language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates who do not meet language requirements will be required to participate in training.
