Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Overflow Program, the Supervisor, Emergency Overflow is responsible for providing leadership and daily operations at a youth, family, single adjust or a couple emergency shelter. This role ensures the provision of safe, supportive, and dignified services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness.


The main responsibilities include motivating, and supporting staff/client's wellbeing, and maintaining the program's service delivery outcomes, and encouraging positive change/innovation in their teams.


They are responsible for a team of professionals (PT, FT, etc.) in a 24/7 365 environment. The individual ensures strategic goals established are translated into practical action and relationships are maximized between clients, employees, and community partners.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure timely and effective delivery of services including coordinated intake, assessment and placement of families within the shelter Respond to crises and emergencies, ensuring appropriate interventions and follow-up Support day-to-day shelter operations, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment Assist in ensuring the safety and wellness of the staff and residents. Task delegation, supporting disciplinary action, and/or direction to staff Provide input and evaluation of front-line staff performance evaluations through regular one to one supervision meetings with staff. Support the recruitment process for potential team members and provide input on the selection process Ensure operational needs are met through oversight of schedule Ensure staff adhere to policies, procedures, and/or the collective agreement Assist in program planning, program monitoring, achievement of service targets, and development of the annual work plan/program goals Maintain a conducive environment to allow for psychological stabilization in a person-centered program that operates 24/7 Through an EDI focused lens demonstrates the ability to create an inclusive workplace where everyone feels welcome Liaise with community support and partners Act as the On-Call responder for other 24/7 programs Work independently and collaboratively within a team to provide housing stability support Demonstrate a strong commitment to quality care and service delivery based on SHIP's Mission and Values and promote that same commitment within the team Ensure appropriate records are kept and make sure that statistical information is maintained as per agency standards Adhere to agency Health & Safety Program and the Client Safety Framework in the promotion of client safety Perform additional duties as required/delegated by Management

Qualifications

:

Post-secondary education in Social Work, Social Services, Health Services, or equivalent 1+ years Supervising and/or Managing employees 3+ years Supporting Families at risk of or experiencing homelessness Demonstrated experience in project management, communication, leadership, crisis management Strong knowledge of Housing First Principles Experience, knowledgeable and comfortable with Harm Reduction Principles Experience working with families experiencing or at risk of homelessness Ability to apply principles of housing first principles approach in day to day work and interactions with clients Expertise in collaboration with healthcare, housing and government and non-government support services in the region of peel Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills Strong analytical and organizational skills Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision in a team environment Proficient in MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook) A vehicle, valid driver's license, and adequate insurance coverage Valid Certification in First Aid & CPR Training in ASIST and CPI Vulnerable Sector Screening

Reporting Function:

The Emergency Overflow Supervisor reports to the Manager, Emergency Overflow Progrgram. They are responsible for overseeing and managing program staff and have the authority to manage the day-to-day operations accordingly. They work with both internal and external partners and interact with all levels within the Organization.


They are a support system, resource, and an advocator for the team and organization.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Day/afternoon and evening shifts (Monday - Friday) with the ability to work excess/overtime hours where required Able to work well with internal and external clients Able to drive, walk (site locations) regularly Staff will work in an environment designed to accommodate animals of various sizes and temperaments, and must be comfortable performing duties in a pet-controlled setting with exposure to noise, fur, and unpredictable animal behavior Staff may be required to administer naloxone in response to suspected opioid overdoses, and must complete appropriate training to recognize overdose symptoms, safely administer naloxone via nasal spray or injection, and follow emergency protocols including contacting emergency services. Staff receive training within the first eight weeks of employment Able to sit for prolonged periods of time Able to answer and communicate telephone calls and general computer use Computer screen use (multiple screens if applicable) for prolonged periods of time Able to lift up to 20lbs (product, documents, etc.) Travel by vehicle to community sites for client support as required
