Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular, full-time Supervisor, Cord Blood Bank and Stem Cell Manufacturing to join our dynamic Medical Affairs and Innovation team.The Medical Affairs and Innovation team provides medical and scientific leadership across a range of specialized areas both within Canadian Blood Services and in interacting with external partners and stakeholders. The team has both strategic visioning responsibility and operational responsibility in the areas of innovation and portfolio management, organ and stem cell donation and transplantation, plasma protein and related products formulary management, medical laboratory, donor and clinical services, medical microbiology and epidemiology, and medical and scientific support to operations and hospital relations.In the role of Supervisor, Cord Blood Bank and Stem Cell Manufacturing, you will be responsible for the supervision and oversight of the daily operations of the Cord Blood Bank and Stem Cell Manufacturing areas including, receipt, processing, testing, cryopreservation, and distribution in accordance with all national policies and procedures, applicable laws and standards, and regulatory/accreditations related to Cellular Therapy and Cord Blood Banking. This position reports into the Manager, Cord Blood Bank and Stem Cell Manufacturing.Formula for success
  • Leveraging your leadership skills, you will supervise cell processing staff performing receipt, processing, testing, cryopreservation and distribution of cord blood and stem cell products to ensure effective and efficient use of resources in a positive working environment in which staff feel empowered, challenged, and engaged.
  • Drawing on your experience, communication, and decision-making skills you will oversee the daily operations of all aspects of the manufacturing process ensuring that processes are performed effectively, efficiently, and safely, this includes organizing and monitoring manufacturing to ensure efficient, safe and effective operations at a local level.
  • Utilizing your analytical and problem-solving skills as well as your continuous improvement mindset you will identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency and productivity and will champion change activities by actively participating in initiatives and projects and when applicable act as a subject matter expert.
  • Leveraging your organizational and data management skills you will manage equipment and supply programs within the processing area.
  • Utilizing your ability to build successful, collaborative teams, you will ensure successful implementation of processes and procedures within the department though participation in local projects, national projects, and initiatives.
  • Drawing on your collaboration and relationship building skills you will support inter-department initiatives as required.
Desired education and skills
  • Active and Current Registration/Licensing with Ontario College of Medical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Minimum of 7 years related Experience working in a Cellular Therapy manufacturing environment is essential.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience of supervisory or senior team leadership capacity is preferred.
  • Experience in a regulatory environment is an asset including knowledge of Stem Cell regulations and standards such as Health Canada Cells Tissues and Organs CTO regulations, Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and AABB (Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies).
  • Experience leading unionized employees is an asset.
  • Operational experience in a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Quality Assurance environment is a definite asset.

  • This role will require you to work on-site at Canadian Blood Services 40 Concourse Gate, Ottawa, Ontario location.
  • Shifts/hours - must be flexible to accommodate assigned shifts which are based on operational needs. Shifts include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. This role will also have rotational on-call responsibilities.
