DUTIES

**NOTE: This position is subject to review by the Joint Job Evaluation Committee**

The Supervisor- Communications, Storytelling and Events works closely with the Executive Director- Student Development to plan, deliver, and assess effective marketing and communications plans for the departments in Student Development. The Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of the Student Development Communications, Storytelling and Events Department. The Supervisor oversees divisional and departmental marketing and communication plans based on TRU Brand, TRU\'s Strategic Priorities and departmental strategic goals. The Supervisor works with a team to ensure the execution of pan-campus events for students leading in best practices and current programming in student affairs. The Supervisor stays up to date on the student experience and captures this via storytelling and digital media. The position liaises with a variety of on-campus departments and relevant off-campus community stakeholders to support the delivery of events, activities, and special projects.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provides guidance and leadership to the Communications, Storytelling and Events Department and displays forward thinking and planning abilities with regards to the continued improvement of services.

  • Provides direct supervision of the staff in the Student Development Communications, Storytelling and Events Department including participating on hiring committees and providing input into job reviews, job creation and performance.
  • Oversees and guides the departmental planning, scheduling, assigns work, monitors projects and reviews overall department service levels.
  • Supervises departmental budget and assists with strategic planning, goal setting and reporting.
  • Sets departmental procedures and processes that align with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for training and on-boarding of new staff, monitoring progress and developing associated training materials.
  • Oversees and coordinates the development of a comprehensive Marketing and Communications plan, and individual departmental plans linked to the TRU Brand, TRU\'s Strategic Priorities and departmental strategic goals.
  • Oversees project management of various activities across Student Development and ensures projects completion via project management software and leading a team.
  • Creates and maintains divisional/department marketing, communications and events required to engage relevant internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, alumni and employers.
  • Oversees the design, development and delivery of marketing and communication campaigns including newsletters and social media activities.
  • Monitors, tracks and makes recommendations on optimizing digital marketing and communication, including social media, newsletters, videos, photography and website.
  • Coordinates website changes within Student Development; creates and maintains a schedule to update online materials to ensure consistency and precision across pages.
  • Oversees and maintains repositories of internal and external marketing and communication needs for recurring events, newsletters and projects.
  • Oversees and maintains the video, audio and photography repository and equipment.
  • Designs and executes the FSD Annual Report, ensuring completion within a set deadline.
  • Coordinates the work of work study and co-op students.
  • Participates in institutional committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Business or Arts, with a major in Marketing or Communications or related field
EXPERIENCE:
  • 5 years related experience in marketing and communications within a post-secondary institution or related educational environment including:
  • Experience with supervising, training, and coordinating staff
  • Experience with developing and executing marketing and communications plans
  • Experience with content curation, writing, editing and designing for print and digital media
  • Experience in event planning including pre to post event details including report writing
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB
  • Demonstrated ability to provide conflict resolution
  • Ability to address and resolve complex and stressful situations with diplomacy
  • Ability to manage one\'s own time effectively, balancing work that requires focused concentration with the need to attend to urgent matters that arise
  • Ability to work well under pressure and deal courteously and tactfully with a variety of people, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to use policies and procedures to problem-solve day-to-day issues
  • Demonstrated advanced computer literacy skills in MS Office or comparable software and desktop publishing skills along with Active Content Management systems: WordPress, or other website maintenance experience, including HTML code
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to serving diverse students and stakeholders

The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.

Pay Band

CUPE Grade 10 $33.53

Salary rate

This Position is not subject to a 90% start rate for new Employees.
