Position summary
Shift Supervisors in the 24-hr respite program will be responsible for leading the delivery of respite services to guests at St. Felix Centre (SFC) including: access to resting spaces, meals, harm reduction supports, health resources and other community services. Supervisors are responsible for delegating tasks to support staff, modeling and coaching staff in best practices, and maintaining Health and Safety standards. This position is part of the CUPE bargaining unit.
RESPONSIBILITES
? Apply a harm reduction approach while leading the delivery of Respite services, including sleeping space, meals, showers, laundry, storage for personal belongings, and orientation for new guests and delegate tasks to support staff as appropriate.
? Role model a respectful, welcoming, friendly and safe environment, utilizing crisis/conflict de-escalation techniques and trauma informed care
? Provide modeling, leadership, and coaching for support staff to ensure service delivery that is consistent with SFC policies and guidelines and report any violations
? Communicate effectively and use a supportive, non- judgmental approach with all team members, managers, supervisors, guests, and stakeholders
? Ensure accurate records using the SMIS database, and SFC tracking documents
? Complete and submit required reports
? Lead staff response to medical and other emergency situations including Opioid overdose as per St. Felix Centre protocols
? Participate in and delegate cleaning tasks to ensure SFC Infection Prevention And Control [IPAC] measures are maintained
? Apply a high-tolerance / low barrier approach to service delivery, using verbal de-escalation techniques to manage escalated incidents
? Maintain an awareness of activities on or near all SFC property, respond as needed using available SFC and partner agency staff, escalate concerns as needed.
? Maintain the safety of staff and guests by issuing warnings and service restrictions to guests when needed
? Maintain the confidentiality of guests and staff members
? Maintain and model appropriate workplace boundaries with both guests and staff, consistent with SFC policy and procedures
? Communicate relevant information to the appropriate management staff in a timely manner
? Adhere to and positively promote Health and Safety protocols including the use of appropriate PPE
? Attend meetings as requested
? Additional duties as requested
Education
? Completion of BSW/SSW or similar discipline or equivalent work experience in a related field - Lived experience will be considered an asset
? Certificates and training will be considered an asset or willingness to be trained: First Aid, CPR, Overdose response and Naloxone administration, Non-violent crisis intervention, Anti racism and anti oppressive practice, Food handlers? certificate, SMIS certificate, Fire Warden training, Toronto Respite Standards
? Joint health and Safety certification considered an asset
CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Internal: SFC staff
External: Community partners, Public health, SSHA, Emergency service personnel, contractors, security
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:
? The Shift Supervisor will provide leadership, model best practices, delegate tasks, and offer coaching to a team of support staff
FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
? Manage contents, withdrawals, and deposit in guest safe
? Monetary or in kind donations
EXPERIENCE:
? Minimum 2 years frontline experience delivering services to those experiencing homelessness or precarious housing
? Internal candidates must have minimum 6 months experience as SFC support staff
? Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role is considered an asset
SKILLS
? Proficient computer skills including email, word processing, and Google Suite applications including Google Documents, Sheets, Drive, Calendar
? Familiarity with Respite Protocols, St Felix Centre policies, and organizational best practices
? Working knowledge of the City of Toronto 24-Hour Respite Site Standards [TRS]
? Knowledge of food safety practices is an asset
? Understanding of both theory and practice of Harm Reduction
? Thorough knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution
? Knowledge of the contents and proper use of harm reduction kits for inhalation or injection of substances
? High confidence for assessing and responding to overdose due to either Opioids or amphetamines
? Report writing and documentation skills
? Excellent verbal communication including in-person and phone interactions

Working Hours: Team B2 Sat-Sun 3pm ? 11:30 pm
Salary: Supervisor $23/hr , Support Staff $21/hr, plus $1 overnight premium

Part-time hours: 16 per week
Salary: $23.00 per hour
