SUPERINTENDENT JOB DESCRIPTION



All employees must know and understand the job description, qualification requirements and management expectations for their position. All employees must know and understand their responsibilities with respect to Pedre's Occupational Health and Safety Program.



Create, maintain and execute the project plan and schedule and ensures compliance with budget

Supervise and coordinate all construction activities

Supervise, direct, coach and train assistant superintendents, coordinators, hourly foreman and hourly staff assigned to project

Help create site specific plans and procedures; ensures the implementation of Pedre's Safety Program to create a safe work environment throughout the jobsite; adhere to the safety and record keeping requirements

Oversee and assist with planning and execution of all technical aspects of the jobsite.

Ensure project materials and workmanship meets the project quality standards and design requirements

Obtain necessary information from engineers, designers, inspectors, municipal/provincial authorities, utility owners and owners

Resolve and advise senior management of potential problems, work interferences or schedule difficulties while assisting in circumventing/resolving such conflicts; anticipate and resolve project issues and schedule difficulties

Other duties as required

Ensure Foremen have all necessary supplies, tools etc.

Qualification Requirements



2 year college diploma and/or apprenticeship in related trades

Minimum 10 years of construction related experience

Has been employed with a large general contractor

In-depth knowledge of the construction industry operations specifically construction specifications, building materials, methods and procedures

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word and Outlook

Understand the technical aspects of civil construction

Ability to lead, mentor, educate and assess trade performance on the job and aspects of occupational health and safety

Experience with scheduling and coordinating contractors

Experience applying basic engineering principles to construction challenges

Ability to visualize the entire project and anticipate constructability issues and embed solutions in the construction plans and schedules

Ability to visualize and create the project schedule's critical path

Experience executing management meetings with trade contractors performing the work and record on weekly basis

Ability to schedule, monitor and forecast resources for optimum efficiency and implement development plans

Ability to manage others and many facets of the construction project and assume responsibility

Proficient ability to interpret contract drawings and specifications with special emphasis on civil projects such as self-performed cast-in place concrete work, road building, earthwork, bridges, underground utilities and retaining walls

Effective oral and written communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities



1. Site Supervision



1. Responsible for the weekly planning and operation of their jobs.

2. In collaboration with the Project Manager a detailed schedule for the following week should be completed by the end of day WED.

3. Ensure all site resources (labour, machinery, materials, sub- contractors, etc.) are effectively utilized and monitored in order to achieve efficient and timely completion of the projects.

4. If production is not being met help mitigate costs or boos production.

5. Gain Project manager approval PRIOR to authorizing additional overtime.

6. Monitor and mitigate additional project costs (i.e., rentals, wasted material etc.) and mitigate whenever possible.

7. Inform Project Mangers of any cost overruns.

8. Identify and track extra work opportunities.

9. Ensure all the required documentation is being filled out and in place and easy to access when needed.

10. Ensure the assigned company service truck is properly maintained, organized and clean. Any damage or maintenance issues must be reported to Shop Foremen immediately

11. Ensure all materials, personnel, trucking and sub- contractors have been accurately ordered by 2 pm the day prior.

12. Ensure FOB system is being used daily by crews.

13. Ensure time sheets are approved and submitted daily to Project Managers.

2. Site Safety



2.1. Full understanding and working knowledge of Pedre's Occupational Health and Safety Program must be achieved, ensuring all site personnel adhere to it at all times.

2.2. Ensure that up-to-date copies of the Occupational Health and Safety Manual, WHMIS book, Traffic Management Plans, and Workers Compensation Act are on site and available.

2.3. Ensure the site's hazard assessment is updated on a daily bases. Foremen must communicate the job/site hazards effectively to all individuals on site; this includes all workers, sub- contractors, municipal representatives, etc.

2.4. Ensure all site safety documentation is being completed and submitted daily

2.5. Ensure the appropriate safety equipment is worn by the site personnel at all times.

2.6. Ensure Foreman keep an inventory of safety supplies on site, and are liaising with Operations and/or the Shop to ensure that safety supplies are stocked as needed. Be mindful of over consumption and abuse of supplies

2.7. Depending on severity and urgency, notify the Safety Manager, regarding any unsafe or potentially hazardous situations, incidents, or near misses on site. If you are unsure of who to inform, contact the superintendent.

3. Quality Control



3.1. Prior to the commencement of site works, gain an understanding of the relevant project specifications and drawings.

3.2. On an ongoing basis, monitor all works against specifications to ensure the continuing quality and accuracy of work performed.

3.3. Notify the Project Manager of any defects, mistakes, error, contamination or variations identified.

3.4. Ensure all applicable quality checklists are completed daily.

3.5. Responsible for assisting with all incident investigations relating to their jobs and their crew members. Investigations must be completed for all accidents, near misses, equipment damage, motor vehicle accidents, and personal injuries. All incidents must be documented and reported to the Project Manager and Safety Manager immediately.

4. Personnel/Subcontractor Management



4.1. Superintendents must clearly understand the job description and enforce the responsibilities of all workers who they supervise. They must ensure that workers are performing their responsibilities safely and adequately.

4.2. Keep crew hours and production on track with project goals

4.3. Ensure a site orientation by a qualified representative is done for all individuals who are new to the job site immediately upon their arrival on site. This includes any workers who have come from another site, and any subcontractors that may be on site.

4.4. Ensure that relevant information is communicated to crew members and subcontractors, enabling them to effectively carry out their functions.

Coordinate/Schedule subcontractors and monitor their progress in order to determine suitability for future work.

4.5. Responsible for issuing warnings and reprimanding employees when needed. All levels of disciplinary action on site must be documented in the Foremen Disciplinary Action Booklet and a copy submitted to HR.

Management Expectations



1. Be prepared to assist other Company Personnel as required or requested.

2. As required or requested, be prepared to carry out other duties and responsibilities.

3. As required, become involved in "on the job training" of others.

4. Participate in any other relevant or appropriate training programs as requested.

5. Achieve the production goals and schedule set for the project.

6. Be prepared to work minimum 40 hours per week

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $110,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
