About Us
A successful record and information management (RIM) program protects and preserves information and records needed by the Minister, and departmental staff, to make informed decisions; thereby ensuring that the department serves the citizens of Nova Scotia in a transparent and accountable manner. At the Department of Public Works we are a small group of dedicated information professionals that have created a collaborative and supportive team environment. This team works to achieve their RIM objectives through the guidance and advisory support they provide to the department\xe2\x80\x99s divisional and district office staff.
About Our Opportunity
As the Records Information Management / Communication Initiative Student, you will receive training and mentorship from highly qualified public service professionals. This is the perfect opportunity to jump start your career and gain an understanding of the provincial government. You will assist staff with a wide range of projects, which support the department\xe2\x80\x99s Information Management Program and Internal Communication Initiatives.
Primary Accountabilities
Information Management:
Participate in the assessment and inventory of corporate records.
Perform regular and consistent data entry to ensure records control in accordance with established departmental procedures.
Participate in the annual departmental records transfer/disposal in accordance with the department\'s retention schedules.
Assist with researching various records management solutions.
Communications / Engagement:
Support internal communication initiatives.
Create information packages.
Update online resources.
Proficient with database management software (Access), graphics design program, video editing software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
Qualifications and Experience
You are a student currently enrolled in a records management, arts, business or public relations program, and returning to school in the next applicable semester for the education program. As the ideal candidate you:
Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Have excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Are adaptable and flexible to changing priorities on a regular basis.
Possess a positive attitude, excellent communication skills and can work well in a team environment.
Are committed to protecting the integrity and reliability of records.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
Working Conditions
Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
Typically located in a comfortable office environment.
Much of the time is spent in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.
Regularly reads and interprets multiple sources of information, regular requirement to type, read and work on a computer.
May experience pressure with deadlines and need for accuracy.

There is one (1) position available based out of Halifax. This opportunity will start approximately June 17, 2024 with an end date of August 30, 2024.
