Job Description


Overview:Summer Student - Inuvik (1), Ulukhaktok (1), Paulatuk (1), Tuktoyaktuk (1), Aklavik (1), Fort McPherson (1), Tsiigehtchic (1)Under the general supervision of the Plant Superintendent from the direction of the Operations Manager, Beaufort Delta, a Summer Student will be considered as part of the Operations team and will be included in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the power generation and distribution facilities to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable supply of electricity to the community. Responsibilities:

  • Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
  • Maintain buildings as to a safe, clean manner including keeping entrances/exits clear of snow and debris, combustible materials stored in proper locations; testing of emergency lighting and exit signs and get serviced as needed.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are properly inventoried, maintained and stored.
  • Floors swept and washed; general housekeeping.
  • Requires physical labour in operating and maintaining power generation equipment, fuel drums and other heavy material.
  • Other general labour duties as required.
Qualifications:Qualifications:
  • Current High School or post-secondary student. Must have completed a minimum of grade 10 and be age 16 or over.
  • Proof of recent enrollment/experience in the SNAP program OR
  • proof of enrollment in a relevant trade school for the 2025-26 school year OR
  • previous operational student employment with NTPC (during the school year, previous summer jobs, etc.) OR
  • good academic standing in relevant courses (e.g. shop class, technical education, etc.)
  • Steel-toed boots are required.
  • Team player with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have a strong commitment to personal safety and safe working practices.
  • Requires physical labour in operating and maintaining power generation equipment, fuel drums and other heavy material.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to maintain effective, open, and reliable communications with team members, customers, and community representatives.
  • Computer skills to operate a variety of software related to financial, administrative and reporting systems, email, internet, etc.
  • Must be able to exercise tact and diplomacy and deal positively and calmly with customers.
  • Must be able to cope with extreme weather conditions.
  • Must prioritize and respond to multiple demands and conflicting priorities, meet deadlines, and inform and seek advice from the Manager/Inuvik staff as appropriate.
