Collingwood Sailing Academy is seeking coaches and camp counsellors for the upcoming sailing season. Being a certified instructor is an asset but not mandatory. If you have sailing experience and or have a background in sport related coaching, please still apply. This role involves classroom instruction, on-water coaching, equipment maintenance, and contributing to the overall positive and fun experience of youth in the program.
Responsibilities
Classroom Management:
Prepare and organize lesson plans in advance, maintain cleanliness in all areas including classrooms and bathrooms, ensure all resources are neatly stored, and uphold SailCanada standards.
Workload Commitment:
Available to work 1 week prior to and after the school season, with a 40-hour work with possibility of 43 hour week scheduled from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. With one evening shift, every other week.
Dock Rigging:
Teach and enforce the importance of equipment care, secure boats properly, and supervise students on the dock ensuring they wear PFDs at all times.
On Water Coaching:
Prepare and execute sailing courses and drills, ensure safety and proper use of equipment, promote hydration, and healthy habits.
Dock De-Rigging:
Supervise and assist in the proper de-rigging and storage of equipment, ensuring students participate in clean-up efforts.
Evaluation and Feedback:
Conduct evaluations before water activities on Fridays, providing specific and constructive feedback to students.
General Duties:
Initiate games and activities for skill reinforcement, maintain cleanliness and organization, ensure availability of water and sunscreen, and model exemplary behavior.
Skills
Certified Sailing Instructor, with a strong foundation in sailing skills and safety protocols.
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to safety, with knowledge of emergency action plans and the ability to enforce safety precautions.
Experience in classroom and on-water sailing instruction is preferred.
Ability to manage and motivate students of various ages and skill levels.
