Who we are:
Established in 1977, Windsure is a family-run watersports business, located at beautiful Jericho Beach in West Point Grey, Vancouver. Today, we work to share our love of three quintessential Vancouver watersports: Windsurfing, Stand-Up Paddleboarding, and Skimboarding.
Regardless of experience, age, ability, or learning goals, Windsure has a program designed for anyone looking to get out on the water. Through rentals, lessons, group programs, and youth camps, the team at Windsure is dedicated to creating an experience for as many watersport-seekers as possible! What you'll do:
Summer Camp Instructors specifically teach programming for children ages 7-15 in one or more of our three sports- windsurfing, skimboarding and paddleboarding, either full day or half day programs. Through all activities, whether technical skills or confidence and team-building games, the goal of the Summer Camp Instructor is to foster a love of sport and nature within participants. In all programs, safety comes first- the Instructors are responsible for the safety and well-being of campers at all times. The Summer Camps Instructor Team works with the leadership of the General Manager and Assistant General Manager to ensure that participants leave camp with new skills and a piqued interest in watersports. Summer camps run Monday-Friday each week from 9am-4pm, with no camp on holidays. Summer Camp Instructors may also instruct non-camp lessons and must be available at least once per week in the evenings or on the weekend.
Some examples of the daily tasks of a Summer Camp Instructor include:
Teach summer camp programming in windsurfing, skimboard and/or stand-up paddling in a safe and friendly manner
Plan, organize, implement, and lead age-appropriate activities
Facilitate and encourage participation in all activities, providing modifications when appropriate
Provide feedback to students to support further learning and engagement
Work with other instructors and staff collaboratively to deliver a fun learning experience
Prepare and take down, clean, put away equipment as needed for camp programming
Respond to emergency situations and injuries with confidence and calm
Act as a liaison between Windsure and parents/ children for summer camp programs
Assist with summer camp weekly registration and daily sign-in/ sign-out
Work with the General Manager and Assistant Manager to resolve any issues with campers and/or parents
You're a good fit if you:
Love being outside and active, especially on the water
Know how to create memorable learning experiences
Are proficient in one or more of our watersports (the more, the better)
Are seeking a role to grow your coaching skills
Have an understanding and/or curiosity of race, gender, BIPOC, LGBTQ2SIA+ and climate justice issues and are committed to creating safe community spaces
What we need
:
Teaching/ coaching experience with youth or similar
Communication & teamwork skills
Coachable & curious
Able to lift and carry minimum 50 lbs
Pleasure Craft Operating Card (PCOC) or willingness to get it
Valid First Aid Training (OFA Level 1 or Equivalent) or willingness to get it
Valid Criminal Record Check or willingness to get one
Able to work in Canada
Bonus: Paddle Canada SUP Certification
