Do you want to travel and work in a First Nations community this summer?


Gain a sense of culture, community and adventure as you work in an Indigenous reserve this summer as a STEM camp counsellor. STEM Canada has a STEM Hive in remote First Nations community as we are seeking 3 amazing camp counsellors to work with us this summer.

We will pay for your travel and accommodations for this amazing opportunity. Spend your summer working on the coast of the St Lawrence River, surrounded by the picturesque coastline and mountains.

We will also cover the cost of a camping excursion on Prince Edward Island as part of the summer program experience.

STEM Montessori Academy of Canada (SMAC-SIAC) is a registered not-for-profit organization specializing in science, technology, engineering, and math. (STEM) programming is open to all students with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application. The SMAC will specialize in an advanced bar-none. STEM based educational curriculum that emphasizes the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)

Who Should Apply?


STEM Montessori Academy of Canada is seeking Enthusiastic, engaging University students, previous Camp Counselors, Club facilitators, Instructors, or Teachers with an expertise in summer programming. STEM Canada is seeking program counselors and mentors for our summer programming.

Travel Required: to Gesgapegiac, Quebec


June 6 - August 15, 2025

(paid travel and accommodations paid)

Full time Shifts:

Beginning June 5 - August 15, 2025.

Planned Start Date:

June 5 - daytime

Weeks of Work:

10 weeks

Shift: Monday to Friday 9 am to 4pm.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:



STEM Canada is a dynamic and innovative organization seeking a highly skilled and passionate

Summer Program Counselor and Literacy Facilitator (Program Mentor)

. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engaging and mentoring students in camp and summer programs, with experience with teaching STEM subjects. Seeking candidates with a strong passion for teaching and mentoring students aged 2 - 15 years old, with a strong respect and knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions.

DUTIES:



Be self-motivating and enthusiastic in carrying out the duties, fostering self-esteem, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. Ensure the atmosphere is inclusive, welcoming, and safe for all children of an indigenous background. Provide positive role-modelling for child participants and volunteers. Be accepting of all children without regard to race, creed, religion. Assist in developing and implementing hands-on activities and projects to help students apply their knowledge and understanding in STEM Subjects. Creating an atmosphere of

inclusion,

experimentation, innovation, and exploration where students can apply the learning in a fun and engaging environment. Designing and implementing fun challenges to motivate and reward students who make the extra effort to master a specific concept or skill. Planning and delivering engaging and interactive art and STEM-based lessons and activities. Assessing student progress and providing constructive feedback to support their learning journey. Must be comfortable creating meaningful content related to STEM, literacy and art. Collaborating with other instructors and department heads to develop and improve the summer program offerings. Supporting and mentoring students as they work on project and assignments. Provide weekly reports on your students, complete appropriate attendance records, daily log, and program plans as required.

Requirements:



Vulnerable Sector police clearance check - A MUST within the last 12-months from date of issue. Must be available to travel June 5, 2025 MUST be dependable and organized Exhibit personal suitability and flexibility Have exceptional interpersonal skills Have excellent oral and written communication skills. Previous online teaching experience would be an asset. Post-secondary students and grad students welcome to apply.

Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
Experience:

running camp programs: 2 years (preferred) teaching, or mentoring, camp counselor: 1 year (preferred)
