PROJECT DETAILS

Location: Langley, BC
Duration: Until construction is completed, which is anticipated to be Summer 2023
Shift: Monday to Saturday (Sundays off), 12 hours per day
Hours of Work: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM
LOA: Provided based on eligibility

DESCRIPTION

Michels Canada is looking for a Summer Engineering Student to join our Energy Group to work closely with the engineering team on a major pipeline construction project. You will be a technical asset to engineering, construction and project management teams during the construction of a 48" mainline natural gas pipeline. You will support the planning, coordination and execution of a wide variety of scopes from beginning to end. You will work in a team that strives to accelerate the development of your engineering and construction expertise and help grow your business acumen.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions
  • Assist with the technical writing of plans, procedures, memos, Request For Information (RFIs), change requests, and reports pertaining to scopes, such as:
  • Driven Pile Installation
  • Cathodic Protection and AC Mitigation
  • Buoyancy Controls
  • Track Boring and Cradle Boring
  • Structural Steel
  • Hydrostatic Testing
  • Grading, Restoration, and other Earthworks
  • Hazardous Slopes & Winching
  • Automatic Welding.
  • Development of project drawings and maps.
  • Communicate daily with Foremen to identify and resolve upcoming issues related to design or unforeseen site conditions
  • Support project controls with scheduling logic, change management, and Digital timesheet/QMS implementation
  • Review engineering calculations and drawings from sub-consultants
  • Field inspections
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or post-secondary diploma in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Must be a registered EIT with APEGA
REQUIREMENTS
  • One (1) or more years of remote field experience working on a fast-paced multi-faceted project
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and an AutoDesk software, such as Civil 3D.
  • Proficient with at least one of the following software applications: Python, Visual Basic, or SAP 2000.
  • Proficiency and confidence with Client-faced communication.
  • Proven ability to capitalize on opportunities to reduce cost, risk, and/or schedule delay.
DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn while making respectable attempts to solve problems independently.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them.
  • Technical competence and strong attention to detail
  • Independently plan and facilitate the execution of $10M+ construction scopes.
LANGUAGES
  • Excellent English communication skills (interpersonal and written) and proven ability to collaborate with team members in a multidisciplinary environment
