OVERVIEW OF POSITION



Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator, the Summer Camp Director plays a vital role in creating positive camp experiences for participants. This position will directly oversee the planning, operation, delivery and on-site administration of the Town of Erin Summer Camp program. Provide supervision and leadership and guidance to the Summer Camp Leaders.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES



Administrative tasks, including program planning and staff/volunteer supervision. Train, supervise, guide, and evaluate Summer Camp Leaders in program planning and implementation. Support camp objectives, departmental policies, and HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD). Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and public health guidelines. Develop and deliver theme-oriented programs for participants. Attend mandatory staff functions (May-September 2026), including interviews, training, shifts, meetings, and site cleanups. Assist with planning and facilitating training for camp leaders. Ensure readiness of program site and staff before program start. Lead during emergencies or critical incidents in the absence of full-time staff. Collaborate with the Recreation Coordinator regularly. Maintain participant and staff safety, documenting incidents immediately. Observe and evaluate staff and program delivery to ensure adherence to policies, standards, and safety guidelines. Address emergencies, incidents, and behavior issues beyond camp leader scope. Manage program materials, supplies, and staff information distribution. Build positive relationships with facility staff and the community. Ensure participant registration and medical/emergency contact information accuracy. Notify Recreation Coordinator of any issues affecting the program. Collaborate on and present staff performance evaluations. Complete and submit administrative tasks, including a year-end report. Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS



Genuine interest in working with children of all ages. Knowledge, training and implementation of behavior management and childhood development. Experience facilitating camps or similar group activities is required. Leadership In Training (LIT) program is an asset. Standard First Aid/CPR C/AED certification is required. HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is considered an asset. Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CRC) including vulnerable sector screening. Formal education in children/youth studies is considered an asset. Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and communication skills. Strong problem-solving, program planning, and organizational skills. Ability to multitask, prioritize, work independently, and on a team. All applicants must provide confirmation of full-time student status in current academic year and/or acceptance into full time studies in September 2026. Must be a minimum of 15 years of age or older by May 30, 2026.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT



The incumbent in this position will work a maximum of 40 hours per week in variable 8-hour shifts between 7:00am-6:00pm, Monday through Friday within the contract period; however, some flexibility may be required. Availability during evenings and weekends in June will be required for Leader training. The compensation for this position is $21.65/hr. The Town offers participation in the OMERS pension plan.
