Reporting to the YMCA Day Camp Site Coordinator, the staff member is responsible for duties consistent with the delivery of a safe and fun filled experience for all camp participants. Counselors will provide leadership to children, and be healthy role models for children within the YMCA. The camp counselor will be enthusiastic, responsible, energetic, and have great leadership skills. In addition, have strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work as part of a team, take direction well and possess the ability to problem solve. Previous experience with children would be an asset. Current CPR and First Aid certification is an asset as well.
Responsibilities:
To read and adhere to YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedure.
To greet each participant and their parent(s) courteously using names whenever possible.
To abide by any camp and COVID 19 regulations as outlined by the YMCA
To be responsible for the safety and security of all participants in your care, at all times following the YMCA Child Guidance/Abuse policies.
To act in a supportive and professional manner when working with fellow staff members, visitors, and campers.
To follow accepted safety practices and procedures in the use of all equipment and in all activities while in the employment of the YMCA.
To maintain the strictest confidentiality and discretion both during and after employment with the YMCA on the subject of the affairs and accounts of all campers, members, and staff regarding acquired information on the course of employment duties.
To keep programs areas clean, organized, and safe for everyone's use. To check for potential health and safety hazards at all times when on duty and to complete incident reports when necessary.
To participate with the children in a positive and supportive manner, taking into consideration each participant's uniqueness.
To be in full uniform while on duty. (discussed in training)

And any other duties assigned by supervisor and or Director of Child care
Qualifications:
Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification an asset
Criminal Reference Check - Vulnerable Sector Check (new upon hire)
Under Canada Summer Jobs; must be between ages 15 t0 30, have a valid Social Insurance Number, and be a Canadian Citizen - returning to post-secondary no longer a requirement.
