What you will do
You will be developing for the many sites that power the Bank of Canada's web presence, including bankofcanada.ca, design.bankofcanada.ca and bankofcanadamuseum.ca. You will have the opportunity to work on several different projects with a variety of people. If you are considering a career in web development, communications or information design, this placement is perfect for you.

In addition, you will:
As a Web Developer you will participate in agile projects; identify, recommend and implement innovative ways of doing business; and write custom plug-ins to support the Bank of Canada's web presence needs. You will also contribute to open-source web projects, create online tools and website features, document your code, and
conduct quality-assurance testing of web pages and functions.

What you need to succeed

  • a strong understanding of the web, including HTML, JS and CSS
  • proficiency with the LAMP/WAMP stack
  • knowledge of typography and design basics, with the ability to create simple and usable interfaces
  • great communication skills: we're an agile team, so frequent and clear communication is a must
  • self-driven work ethic: you need to be a self-starter who loves taking initiative and seeing things through to completion
  • curiosity and the desire to learn: our business is changing and growing fast
  • flexibility is key: who knows what skills will solve the issues of tomorrow?
Nice-to-have
  • experience building WordPress themes and plug-ins
  • experience running and developing on open-source platforms such as Linux
  • basic design/typography/UX skills
  • experience with automated testing
  • experience with code versioning (GIT, SVN)
Your education and experience

You must be currently enrolled in a university or college program in a computer science or engineering related field.

What you need to know
  • Language requirement: English or French essential
  • Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
  • Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Secret

Remote work / Hybrid Work Model #LI-Remote

The Bank is conducting a trial of a hybrid working model which provides employees with the flexibility to telework for significant portions of each month. During the trial, employees will be expected to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person and to build connections with colleagues. For the majority of employees, it is expected that onsite time will range from 5 to 10 days per month, depending on your role. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office. For this position, should you not live within reasonable commuting distance of the office, you will be able to work 100% remote (within Canada). for the duration of this term.
