About your team
The Security Intelligence Operations and Programs (SIOP) team forms part of the Security Risk Management Office (SRMO) within the Corporate Security Service (CSS) at the Bank of Canada. CSS operates under a three lines of defence model and SIOP shares first line responsibilities with Physical and Personnel Security (PPS) and is the operational arm of SRMO. SIOP holds primary responsibility for the following areas:

  • Monitoring, analyzing and reporting on security threats to the Bank of Canada and Canada\'s financial infrastructure;
  • Security Incident Response: alerting, monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on evolving situations of potential impact to the Bank;
  • Central Security Intake: monitoring the CSS Security Inbox, assessing and prioritizing incidents and requests,
  • Designing, developing and implementing first line security programs, including:
  • Security Intelligence Program
  • Travel Security Program
  • Security Investigations Program
  • Corporate Security Awareness Program
  • Technical Security Counter-Measures (TSCMs) Program
  • Establishing and fostering an information-sharing network of key security, intelligence and law enforcement partners.
What you will do
SIOP is currently seeking a full-time student who is self-motivated, energetic, driven for success and results-oriented to join our team. The Student Security Analyst will be responsible for supporting the first line responsibilities within both the operational arm of SRMO and the Corporate Security Awareness Program, namely:
Security Operations
  • Monitor central security intake, prioritize and respond to requests and incidents in a timely manner
  • Conduct research and analysis of existing and emerging threats, disseminate findings using presentations, databases, and other analytical products
  • Maintain databases and information streams to enable stakeholder engagement
  • Monitor Travel Security requests, triage requests to ensure compliance, initiate and participate in the completion of country threat and risk assessments
Security Awareness Program
  • Promote security awareness culture and provide guidance to internal areas of the Bank on security best practices
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate facilitation and delivery methods for training (e-learning, multimedia, workshop, classroom, blended solutions, etc.) utilizing results of a comprehensive needs analysis
  • Support the design and development of Security Awareness materials such as eLearning courses, presentations, speaker notes, facilitator guides, video/multimedia, job aides and surveys
  • Aid in the delivery of instructor-led in-person and virtual training to diverse audiences
What you need to succeed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to conduct data validation and analysis
  • Proficiency in the Office suite of products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Self-starter, team player and innovative problem solver
  • Interest in security related events
  • French Language (Asset)
Your education and experience
You must be currently enrolled in a university or college or other post secondary program on a full or part-time basis, pursuing undergraduate or graduate level studies in a field related to this position, including security, intelligence, international relations, law, criminology or political science and must be returning to school in the next academic term.

Most employees can telework from home for a substantial part of each month as part of the Bank`s hybrid work model, and they are expected on site at the Bank location a minimum of eight days per month to help build connections between colleagues. You must live in Canada, and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
