NAIT's Centre for Sensors and System Integration (CSSI) is one of the seven (7) research centres within the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Applied Research. CSSI is a dynamic research centre of innovation and expertise dedicated to breaking down barriers in the world of technology, particularly in the areas of automation & digitization, sensors and system integration, AI, and emerging technologies. At the forefront of the centre's mission, we believe that innovation should be accessible to all. Our research centre catalyzes changes, fostering an environment where groundbreaking ideas flourish through collaboration and motivation. We may be automating a process towards efficiency and precision, improve an existing technology in an innovative way, integrating multiple technologies for custom application, or designing and building something novel.



CSSI is looking to expand the team's technical expertise to meet growing research needs in the areas of prototyping, testing, microelectronic systems integration, embedded systems, automation, and customized system design and implementation. The ideal candidate will have knowledge in one or more areas and be enthusiastic to new learning opportunities.




Key Responsibilities:



The position is responsible for design and implementation of prototypes, electronic control, data acquisition, and wireless communication systems for industry funded applied research projects. Teamwork with experts in innovative and novel technological solutions on industry challenges.



Skills & Abilities:




Technical Skills in multiple of the following categories are necessary:


Familiarity with CAD design tools and 3D printing. Machining, wiring, and panel implementation. Knowledge on Electronic circuits and systems. Internet of Things (IoT) based system design involving data acquisition and system control. Sensor networking through wireless, cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity.

Working knowledge or familiarity with the following will be an asset:


Human-machine interface (HMI) and PLC programing. PCB design and implementation. Firmware development.


Qualifications:

At a minimum students must complete the 1st year of technical diploma program. 2nd year/recent graduates are also eligible. Following diploma programs are of interest- Computer Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Engineering technology, Nanosystems Engineering Technology, Wireless Systems Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Engineering Design Technology, or related discipline.


Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).




Remuneration

: $1,267.05 - $1,572.39 bi-weekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Student Research Assistant I).



This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement
