This position will support the Roots to Wellness Research Collaborative by providing support with program planning to support Indigenous Youth. This position may support one or more research projects under the leadership of Dr. JoLee Sasakamoose.

Duties may include:

Program Planning Support

: Assist in planning and organizing sessions for a club for Indigenous youth, including researching topics, identifying speakers, and coordinating logistics under the guidance of the Research Chair.


Communication with Families

: Maintain regular communication with participating families, providing updates on program schedules, upcoming events, and other relevant information.


Liaising with Community Organizations

: Assist in connecting with community organizations to support the program, identify resources, and build collaborative partnerships.


Arranging Session Facilitators

: Help identify and contact potential facilitators or guest speakers for the pre-med club sessions, ensuring their availability and coordination with program schedules.


General Assistance

: Provide general assistance to ensure the smooth operation of the program, including data collection, participant feedback, and any additional tasks as assigned by the Research Chair.


All activities will be carried out under the supervision and direction of the Research Chair and the Research Project Coordinator.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in a graduate program, preferably in a relevant field of study. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Experience working collaboratively with diverse individuals and groups including Indigenous communities, fostering inclusive and respectful environments. Experiencing working directly with youth, providing support and guidance in an educational and/or recreational setting. Skilled in developing and organizing programming/activities/events for youth, with a focus on promoting positive outcomes. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Proficiency in MS Office suite


Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with issues affecting First Nations, Inuit, and Metis peoples is an asset. Ability to speak and understand an Indigenous language is an asset.
Physical Demands Pay Grade As Per CUPE 2419 Salary Range As Per CUPE 2419 Collective Agreement Status Term Work Hours
It is expected the student will work for up to 20 hours of work per week for the term (depending on the availability of work).
