The RoleThe Office of Applied Research and Innovation is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant to support our Applied Research and Technology Partnership Grants: Precision Agriculture Technology Adoption for Sustainable Northern Alberta Farms. The Research Assistant will support applied research duties as determined by the principal investigator in applying technological innovations to agriculture settings. This position will require frequent trips to the Fairview Campus with time spent both in agricultural settings and focusing on programming technology.:

  • Liaise with industry across different sectors including instrumentation and agriculture.
  • Track project progress and generate reports to principal investigator.
  • Set up hardware and software as necessary for research project as specified by principal investigator.
  • Generate Excel spreadsheets with package information for specific research projects.
  • Meet project deadlines as outlined by principal investigator.
  • Specific programming duties to develop technology as required for research project.
  • Maintain research integrity and confidentiality.
Job RequirementsRequirements:In our search for a successful candidate, we encourage applications from college and polytechnic students that have completed a Computer Science Diploma, or will complete it by December 2024, and continue enrollment in pursuit of a BSc in Computer Science.Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in the role include:
  • Current part-time or full-time college or polytechnic student.
  • A background or interest in instrumentation an asset.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining a high standard of quality.
  • Follows directions and protocols with precision.
  • Ability to document methods and all steps of the experimental design.
  • Cooperates effectively in a team setting but also independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail orientated.
  • Proficiency or willingness to learn industrial programming languages and industrial digital communication protocols.
  • Ability to work independently, accurately and to problem solve technical and methodological issues that arise during the employment period.
