Student Recruitment Strategist

Primary Purpose: The Student Recruitment Strategist will foster strong internal and external partnerships to increase awareness of USask Nursing programs that will attract prospective domestic, Indigenous, and international students to the college. Working with the College of Nursing undergraduate and graduate student advising teams, the Student Recruitment Strategist is responsible for supporting prospective students through the recruitment, admission, and arrival phases of the nursing student life cycle. The position is a key contributor that enables the College of Nursing to achieve its enrolment goals in alignment with central recruitment to promote the University of Saskatchewan as the university of choice.

Nature of Work: The College of Nursing is the largest non-departmentalized college at the University of Saskatchewan and is among the most distributed. The \xe2\x80\x9cLearn Where You Live\xe2\x80\x9d nursing education programs at the College of Nursing include an undergraduate degree that is delivered in its entirety across several locations in Saskatchewan, and there are numerous graduate programs that are available nationally. This position is based at the University of Saskatchewan\'s Saskatoon or Prince Albert campuses and reports to the Dean of Nursing.

The Student Recruitment Strategist works closely with the dean\'s executive, nursing student advising team, clinical coordinators, and the senior marketing and communications specialist, as well as members of the university\'s recruitment team and admissions office. The incumbent will create connections with regional partners, diverse communities, and prospective students to promote USask Nursing programs and create clear pathways to enhance eligibility and facilitate recruitment of students to a range of programs. Engaging with others who assist students with their decision-making will be essential, including parents, high school counselors, and post-secondary counselors. The Student Recruitment Strategist will be the key point person for establishing and maintaining relationships with College of Nursing partners at sites throughout the province regarding student recruitment.

The incumbent will be expected to work under pressure in a fast paced, technology rich, and high volume environment, characterized by continuous change, shifting priorities, and frequent interruptions where competing deadlines and multi-tasking is the norm. Volume of work can vary considerably with marketing cycles, recruiting trips, university events, and is driven by critical admissions deadlines. The incumbent must also be able to work independently with minimal supervision, exercising discretionary decision-making based on sensitivity and knowledge of individual markets and recruiting trends. The incumbent must be willing to learn about programs, admission policies, and the university\'s research initiatives and academic priorities. Exercising judgment is integral to determine the appropriate guidelines, procedures, and priorities for work. Travel will be required.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • Maintain contact with prospective students throughout the recruitment cycle, from prospective student to registered student, by email, telephone, web, relationship management system (RECRUIT -RMS) and other technologies.
  • Foster relationships and provide quality customer service to key stakeholders. Coordinate with high school visits and career fairs to represent the College of Nursing.
  • Contributes to meeting student enrolment targets by developing and delivering recruitment and admissions presentations to prospective students, parents, high school personnel and post-secondary institution personnel.
  • Participate in the preparation, planning and execution of recruitment and student transition events, such as Open House, U-Start, Indigenous Spend-a-Day, and Orientation.
  • Attend local or provincial conferences to showcase USask nursing programs that will attract prospective students.
  • Work closely with the University of Saskatchewan Admissions Office to facilitate communication with prospective students, their parents, high school counselors, educational representatives and post-secondary counselors, performing admissions counselling, on-site admissions.
  • Provide front-line customer service to prospective nursing students.
  • Maintain knowledge of innovations, trends, and professional development opportunities within the scope of student recruitment, admissions, student services and higher-education marketing professions.
  • Works closely with the Associate Dean Academic and the undergraduate team to support undergraduate student recruitment to the non-direct entry BSN program.
  • Works closely with the Associate Dean Research and Graduate Studies, and the Graduate Studies team to support recruitment of nursing students into graduate programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education: Undergraduate degree, preferably in commerce or post-secondary education leadership, or related health care field. Experience in a USask post-secondary program is an asset. A master\'s degree is an asset.

Experience: Candidate must have demonstrated effective intercultural competencies and sensitivity, with proven record of working independently, and building effective relationships and collaborations with internal and external stakeholders. Experience in market research and analysis, as well as promotion is an asset. Knowledge of the secondary and post-secondary education landscape in Saskatchewan is an asset. Knowledge of healthcare and/or a health sciences environment that is transferrable to nursing would also be considered an asset.

Skills: Ability to work and communicate effectively with students from a broad range of backgrounds and cultures; excellent relationship, diplomacy and communication skills including relationship building, diplomacy and negotiation, both one-on-one and in large group or presentation settings; ability to work as part of the student recruitment team or independently and take initiative; event-planning experience, including demonstrated creativity and experience analyzing market research to achieve expected outcomes; thorough knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan, including: admission application procedures and policies; registration procedure; student support services and facilities; the university\'s academic programs and willingness to maintain up to date on all the procedures; familiarity and experience with: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and willingness to learn platforms including: RECRUIT - RMS, PAWS, and Pages; comfortable with online resources and communications, including a variety of social media platforms; ability and willingness to travel throughout Saskatchewan, Canada, and internationally. Must possess and maintain a valid driver\'s license with an acceptable driving record, as well as a valid passport; ability to speak additional languages would be considered an asset.
