Dillon\xe2\x80\x99s Planning & Design group is looking for a Student Planner to work with our multidisciplinary team of professionals available within our Alberta/North Community Planning & Design group, located in the Yellowknife Office.


You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience. Responsibilities:
What your day will look like

  • Contribute to planning, indigenous community development or policy projects including research, report writing, fieldwork and stakeholder, rights holder and regulatory consultation
  • Support policy development for land use plans and other community plans and projects, as needed, based on inputs from research and engagement
  • Assist with projects and assignments related to community development, regional land use, and environmental management
  • Work with and support intermediate and senior planners in carrying out approvals/permitting processes for a range of projects
  • Prepare and contribute to planning documents and reports including community engagement summaries, background reports, analytical and rationale reports, and plans
  • Conduct and contribute to detailed research, including jurisdictional and legislative framework reviews
  • Work closely with clients, including Local Governments and First Nations, to build effective working relationships and respond effectively to requests
  • Prepare engagement and meeting materials, including summaries and memos, presentations, information panels, activities, and informational content for project websites
  • Collaborate with technical and professional staff from across the company and sub consultants to complete assignments
  • Support client relationships and business growth in Alberta and Northwest Territories, including proposal writing
  • Travel to and work with communities\xe2\x80\x99 throughout northern Canada including, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and potentially the Yukon
  • Ensure professionalism and personal accountability for time management, quality control, troubleshooting of project work, and meeting timelines and budget

Length of Employment:
  • The ideal candidate would be available for a minimum of 4-8 months with consideration of extensions of for 12 and or 16 month terms
Qualifications:
What you will need to succeed
  • Completed at least the 2nd year of a post-secondary program with a focus on Planning, Human Geography, community development, or a similar field
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
  • Strong writing skills; proficiency in report and plan writing
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
  • Critical and strategic thinker
  • Responsible, organized, accountable, and committed to excellence on all levels
  • Versatile and adaptable with ability to work in a self-directed, multidisciplinary team setting
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Able to travel and work with communities\xe2\x80\x99 throughout northern Canada including the Northwest Territories and Nunavut
Experience:
  • No experience needed

Hours and Pay
  • Schedule is based on standard workweek of 37.5 hours
  • Approved overtime will be paid in compliance with local employment standards and regulations
  • Rate of pay is between $21 - $23 an hour (paid bi-weekly which includes allowance for vacation pay and payment for statutory holidays)

Relocation Requirement
  • You agree to relocate to Yellowknife by the start of your official employment with Dillon
