We are accepting applications for a four month, full-time term Student Planner - Long Range position, starting, May 5, 2025, to join our team. Reporting to the Manager Long Range Planning and Sustainability, the primary responsibilities of this role include:



Assisting with gathering and analyzing data for various sustainability and long-range planning projects (e.g. local area plan, climate action, adaptation planning, transportation planning);

Supporting the creation of community engagement strategies for long-range planning, climate change, and sustainability initiatives (e.g. energy efficiency rebate programs, local area plan);

Under the supervision of the manager, drafting reports, briefing memos, and correspondence on long-range planning, climate change, and sustainability projects;

Conducting data and policy analysis to inform policy recommendations;

Collaborating with various internal departments, under the Manager's guidance, to build effective working relationships;

Representing CVRD interests during engagement processes;

Assisting with creating informative and visual materials for public distribution and update planning project information on the CVRD website;

Supporting staff with project scoping and execution;

Assisting in researching and preparing grant applications (e.g. active transportation, climate initiatives);

Contributing to the implementation of ongoing climate change programs and initiatives.



Our ideal candidate is:

Currently enrolled in a four-year undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in planning, or a Master's degree in Planning, with at least one year of full-time studies completed and returning to school after the work term;

Familiarity with provincial legislation relevant to the role, including the Local Government Act and the Climate Change Accountability Act;

Understanding of local government operations, Official Community Plans, zoning bylaws, and the procedures for bylaw amendments;

Awareness of provincial, regional, and corporate programs, policies, and best practices concerning environmental, regional planning, and corporate strategic planning matters;

Knowledge of sustainability principles, including nature-based solutions, equity, and climate change mitigation and adaptation;

Ability to evaluate basic public datasets and perform essential data analysis tasks;

Capability to link data and policy to provide a broader context;

Understanding of research, evaluation, and data analysis techniques related to the issues being examined;

Strong strategic and analytical thinking, problem-solving, project management, business planning, and risk management skills;

Excellent interpersonal abilities for fostering collaborative working relationships;

Strong written and verbal communication skills;

Demonstrated ability to manage one's workload independently, ensuring accountability for deliverables while adhering to work plans and timelines;

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.



A valid BC Class 5 driver's license is required for this role.



This is a CUPE Local 556 position with a current wage rate of $28.77 per hour.
