Job Description

The Physics Department seeks applications for student laboratory assistants for the fall 2023 term for Physics 1110 and Physics 1210. Additionally, one to two positions are available as general support persons for public telescope viewings and Physics 1510.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Acting as a general resource person for students during the lab
• Monitoring student operations in conducting experiments
• Ensuring all computer and lab equipment is used safely

• Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as applicable
• (Astronomy course only) Assist in public telescope viewings with the potential to operate the telescope and lead small groups in astronomy viewings independently

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Enrolled as a UPEI student
• Applicants will have successfully completed the course for which they are selected to assist in the tutorial, or have relevant alternative experience
• Preference will be given to students taking Physics as their major or minor
• Previous experience as a laboratory assistant is an asset
