The Students' Association of Olds College (SAOC) is on a mission to empower students by creating a safe environment filled with allies and supporting them through their journeys with community-based services. We're seeking a passionate, empathetic and effervescent Student Experience Manager to help us fulfill this important objective. Reporting to the Executive Director, the SEM will be responsible for managing the logistics of SAOC's student programs and services. They will plan and host events, support student clubs, and manage our staff- and volunteer-driven programs. Experience with event planning is essential, and experience in hospitality, student services, public speaking, and team leadership is considered a plus. Above all, the Student Experience Manager should have exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Objectives of this role:
Maintain an excellent relationship with students and strengthen SAOC's reputation as a students-first organization.
Maintain an excellent relationship with Olds College staff to promote collaboration and harmony across the campus community.
Develop initiatives to serve a variety of student interests, such as personal development, health & wellness, and athletics.
Work closely with the Food & Beverage Manager to regularly plan and host events in SAOC spaces.
Work closely with the Digital Engagement and Communications Manager to ensure that events and programs are effectively promoted to the student body.
Key responsibilities/outputs:
Plan and host regular workshops and seminars to promote personal and professional skill development among the student body.
Plan and host SAOC's largest annual events with or without student club support.
Plan and host other student events throughout the year (i.e. trivia nights, karaoke, etc.).
Create and maintain SAOC's annual events calendar, and communicate event information to colleagues and Olds College stakeholders.
Provide training & development opportunities for club leaders on the skills required to carry out their duties.
Support student club operations, including club registration, fund deposits and withdrawals, and event programming.
Coordinate meetings with student clubs to facilitate regular communication with students and reinforce SAOC's dedication to providing support.
Order and organize SAOC swag and prizes for key events, including orientation.
Manage SAOC's food bank program (the Pantry) by maintaining regular inventory, ordering food and personal essentials, and receiving and stocking products.
Manage the administration of SAOC's Pantry and Pantry Garden programs by processing applications, communicating with users, and adjusting program details and access as needed.
Coordinate and oversee volunteers and support staff appointed to assist with Pantry and Pantry Garden operations.
Identify, create, and coordinate additional volunteer opportunities for students.
Maintain a roster of volunteers for various opportunities that may arise throughout the year.
Provide planning and logistics support to colleagues with events hosted by other SAOC departments.
Network with Olds College staff, faculty, and alumni to generate and coordinate events in service of the student body.
Attend quarterly meetings with Olds College's student services departments to stay up-to-date about campus events and communicate on SAOC's behalf.
Skills & qualifications:
Diploma or higher education in hospitality, event management, or other related field.
2 years of experience in a related position.
Valid ProServe and ProTect certifications are considered an asset.
Standard First Aid and Mental Health First Aid are considered an asset.
Punctuality and consistency, especially pertaining to professional behavior.
Belief in the value of student needs and opinions.
Ability to use personal vehicle for business purposes is an asset. SAOC has an authorized drivers program and reimburses for business travel expenses.
