The Department of Student Affairs at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) invites applications for a Student Engagement Officer. The Student Engagement Officer is a key member of the Student Affairs team, gathering student perspectives, providing critical insight, and developing and implementing initiatives that support Student Culture and Community Standards, a new unit developed to address the university\'s expanding and increasingly diverse student population. Reporting to the Manager of Student Culture and Community Standards, the Student Engagement Officer will regularly solicit and listen to students as to their experiences, set up systems to ask students about these experiences, and create and implement new programs to address resulting identified needs. The position will also be responsible for supporting and maintaining on-going student engagement projects within the Department of Student Affairs.As a part of the Student Culture and Community Standards unit, the Student Engagement officer will play a supporting role in maintaining community standards, both in contributing to community standards education and in providing support to complainants through the Student Code of Conduct process.The Student Engagement Officer will support building community and student culture through close partnerships and collaboration with the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion office to ensure that outreach, advocacy, support, and community building efforts are consistent with the University\'s EDI efforts and actively reach out to traditionally marginalized and equity seeking groups on campus.RESPONSIBILITIES:Core responsibilities for the position will include:

  • Establish coordinated and integrated systems to receive and process student voices and reports of their experience on campus both online and offline.
  • Identifies issues and gathers perspectives from students\' voices while acknowledging the importance of creating an inclusive process that encourages and seeks out feedback from racialized and other equity-seeking group students. Implement initiatives to address these issues promptly by collaborating with relevant units on student informed initiatives.
  • Support the development, implementation, and facilitation of programs to enhance student Community Standards (currently supported by three campus-wide policies - Sexual Violence Prevention and Response, Student Code of Conduct, and Fair Treatment)
  • Collaborate with various campus departments including the Office of Institutional Research, International Student Office (ISO), Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Office, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SVPRO), and academic advising staff to foster a holistic approach to student success and retention
  • Solicit and listen to students as to their experiences, set up systems to ask students about these experiences, and create and implement new programs to address resulting identified needs
  • Oversee the promotion and marketing of diverse campus programs and events, with an emphasis on enhancing supports and sense of belonging for equity-seeking groups
  • Hire, train and coordinate the Campus Life Program providing guidance to students facilitating the programming.
  • Support the development and delivery of student leadership training programs for students who have lived experience for equity seeking groups.
  • Contribute to education and programming initiatives regarding substance use on campus, aligned with the alcohol and drug use policy
  • Promote positive student conduct and behaviour through outreach efforts, providing culturally relevant presentations and advising
  • Support development of preventative programs and resources to foster a supportive campus community.
  • Be part of the team that supports complainants and respondents in matters relating to Fair Treatment and Student Code of Conduct
  • Gather data and conduct analysis on student engagement and belonging to create and implement responsive programming
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Lived experience with underrepresented, equity-seeking groups and understanding of the impact of intersectionality for these groups
  • A bachelor\'s degree in education, social work, law or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of experience, working in student support services, preferably in a post-secondary educational system; or equivalent experience working interactively with young adults in non-educational settings
  • Experience turning quantitative and qualitative data and analysis into programming goals and targets
  • Experience developing and facilitating workshops
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and expansion
  • Experience with policy, implementation, and report writing
  • A candidate who enhances the diversity of the Department of Student Affairs would be an asset
  • Experience and academic advising, counselling, or related areas an asset
  • Experience in student conduct administration, including working with sexual violence policies and procedures would be an asset
  • Event planning, skills, and experience is a benefit
