The Opportunity - Student, Communication Assistant The Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) is seeking a summer student to work on Olds College responsibilities with the Central Alberta Regional Innovation Network (CARIN), one of 8 RINS in the province. OCCI is the scientifically acclaimed applied research division of Olds College. OCCI works with industry partners, other research organizations, and the College\xe2\x80\x99s Smart Ag Ecosystem to define and execute applied research projects. OCCI\xe2\x80\x99s goal is to accelerate the development and adoption of agricultural technologies and practices to improve productivity and sustainability of food production. OCCI\xe2\x80\x99s current focus is on broadacre, dryland crop production, beef production, and sheep production with a focus on integrating technology and utilizing data for better management decisions. The anticipated term of employment for this position may extend from May 1, 2023, to early September, 2023. The work week will consist of 40 hours and may require some extended work hours (evenings, weekends). Wage: $15-$16 per hour (vacation and stat holiday pay is 14% on top of that which is $17.10 - $18.24 per hour) Under the general supervision of the Manager - Entrepreneurship & Innovation, the Communications Assistant may support the team through the following functions.
Design and deliver marketing and promotional activities
Submit a report with recommendations for ongoing marketing and promotional activities;
Draft and help deliver a social media plan for CARIN
Work with internal clients and the Olds College Communications and Marketing team to research and coordinate stories with media
Collaborate with/have oversight from staff and contractors from Olds College, Red Deer Polytechnic and Alberta Innovates (or others)
Assist and contribute to communication and outreach activities including lunch \xe2\x80\x98n learn presentations, tours, field days and events such as AgSmart and Inventure
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Working toward a post-secondary education Degree, Diploma and/or Certificate \xe2\x80\x93 preferably in communications, public relations or marketing.
Background in agriculture or science would be considered an asset.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Self-motivated team players and possess the ability to work with minimal supervision
Demonstrates well developed time management skills.
Able to draft communications in a proactive manner and in anticipation of audience reactions.
Demonstrates exceptional command of the English language including grammar, writing, and speaking skills.
Demonstrates a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Possesses excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of public relations practices and principles.
Superior writing skills and a talent for crafting interesting, engaging stories.
Familiarity with traditional media channels.
Understanding of CP Style.
General interest in research and agricultural topicss
