Student By-Law Enforcement Officer

What You Will Do:

• Gain valuable knowledge about a career in law enforcement while you learn about the role and responsibility of By-Law Enforcement in a municipal setting.
• Hone your interpersonal and leadership skills in a team environment.
• Working in a supportive team environment, develop your skills in identifying, investigating and reporting offences while supporting enforcement of Town by-laws.
• Participate in responding to complaints and enforcing compliance with by-laws related to parking, dog control, burning, business licensing and noise.
• Provide education and awareness of the Town\xe2\x80\x99s by-laws to members of the public.
• Perfect your research skills and provide input and recommendations and provide evidence in Court in support of charges laid.

This position reports to the Chief By-Law Enforcement Officer or designate and is expected to start May 1, 2023, and end September 1, 2023. We are looking for a team player who is enthusiastic, customer service focused and who has the following:

• Enrollment in post-secondary program or courses related to law enforcement.
• Prior work experience in a law enforcement setting is considered an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with members of the public, coworkers and others in a friendly, courteous and effective manner.
• Comfort and confidence in dealing with and deescalating difficult situations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of the team.
• Ability to provide an acceptable vulnerable sector police check.
• Experience with, or willingness to learn, relevant safety legislation.
• Pleasure Craft Operator Card is considered an asset.
• The ability to work shifts as scheduled, including day, evening and weekend shifts is required.
• Valid class \xe2\x80\x9cG\xe2\x80\x9d Ontario Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and Drivers Abstract, in good standing and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
